My baby had to be pts yesterday. He had a tumour near his heart that was stopping him getting enough oxygen. He had a lovely day on Saturday with lots of cuddles and a bone but by Sunday he was getting weaker so I made that hard decision to let him go peacefully before he got too bad to enjoy life.

He was the happiest little chap I've ever met, I used to say to him 'you're always laughing' and his whole body wriggled when he wagged his tail. He used to 'chat' to me in little growly noises and was just the most playful funny boy. The last thing he did in the vets surgery was give me 'kisses with teeth in' (a kiss and a bite rolled into one!) and made grab for what he thought was a toy in my hand, but it was actually a wad of tissues. I'm so sad and the house seems deathly quiet without him.

I'm so sorry. God it's awful when this happens.

It sounds like you let him go at the right time, so you will be able to look back on his happy life with no suffering at the end to spoil it.

Nothing hurts like the loss of a much loved dog.

I made a locket when my old friend died. I had it engraved with her name and a paw print, and put a lock of her hair in it. It can help to do something that actively commemorates your pet when you have to say goodbye.

Oh, i feel so sad for you. I had a very special boy stolen too soon, taken on the road by a passing car. I always dreamed of him growing old with me. And 4 years on i miss him dreadfully. After saying nothing would come close to him, One day i went to a horse sale and found a very small pup who needed a loving home and 18 months later i love this dog so much... he will never take my darling Randle's place but... one day you will look back at memories of your beloved dog and feel happy for what you shared. big hugs for you, my heart goes out to you xxx
