Hiya, I just wondered if anybody has any experience of the BYRDS program run by British Dressage. Just wondered How much it is to join etc. and if it is worth it? Also if anybody is in the midlands/northern region I would love to hear from them and what they have done with byrds.

You have to just be a member of british dressage to join.

How old are you and what level are you currently competing at?

You just contact your RDO (on the BD website) and they will send you out information on training days and clinics in your area. Also in the back of your BD magazine there is a list of BYRDs training going on for the two months the magazine is issued for.

The training oportunities are fantastic and each 'area' has a an 'a' 'b' and 'c' team which you can be selected for.

I have just become a member of BD but I haven't recieved my stuff yet so I am looking forward to it coming. I am new to dressage, I have previously only done BSJA and other jumping (hunting, xc etc.) I broke my leg at xmas so I can't jump for 18 months. I have took my horse out to some unaffiliated dressage and have got scores between 67% and 72% from prelim to elementary. I did an affilliated prelim a few weeks ago and got 70.6%. I am 18 and I think BYRDS runs up until you are 25. I think I will join, its sounds quite good.

I thought you DONT have to be a BD member. well...atleast i've done the BYRDS training and the tallent spotting day without needing to be reg, just 'into' dressage. but then maybe you do if you actually do team things..?

You do not have to be BD member but went to get on teams i thin you have to join yourself and the horse you shall be competing. I do BYRDS training etc and it is good fun with good chances for you and the horse, well worth doing!

i seeeee, that makes sence. well no need to worry about that as by the time we're close to team standard i'll probably be out of the 'class'! oh well i suppose its a tad extreme to be members of all three major horsey sports anyway!

yes, you dont have to be a member to train, but if you want to be on the teams you need to be out competing BD affliated level.

its up to 25yrs old, and like i said its good fun.
