So I have gone a bit snow-crazy and searched locally for things to do when it thaws. And I've gone a bit credit-card happy with booking onto things. In recent days I have arranged or entered:

- 2 SJ lessons
- A dressage lesson
- An arena eventing clinic
- A pole work clinic
- A 2 day camp at Aintree
- A combined training comp
- A BE90

All taking place between now and 3rd March. I usually limit myself to 1 dressage, 1 SJ and 1 'other' a month. Oops. But also I can't wait! Sometimes you just need to think 'sod it' and enjoy!

Anyone else engaged in a bit of retail therapy during the freeze?
 
After my dressage to music evening I have spent hours on the internet just playing with a video of Rose and different types of music to see what looks good. it's a very cheap way to spend down time! However, I'll probably end up buying into a package. I did manage a lesson yesterday afternoon, Rose hadn't been ridden for a week and was just a bit fresh and crabby at the same time (blotted her copy book with a huge buck!) so I have booked her in for a week's schooling when I am away next month as she clearly benefits from being in regular work. You are clearly going to have a fab February, fingers crossed the weather improves. It's a glorious day again here but very cold and my arena is still frozen from last night!
 
I have a lesson in half term as per normal.
I don't compete and I can see why if I need to put in this much effort.
Saying that I enjoy fun rides/ trec/ hunts because I love hacking. I just need to work on getting my sandwiches in the saddle bags. :rolleyes:

DTM and prix caprilli are both great, I would recommend to anyone who wants something else to do besides ride around a flat bit of sand. That me ;)
Your riding club might be interested in doing a taster that how I did it. Or do it online.

It's set to thaw from tomorrow... wet and windy I can cope with. Just need to get rid of the flipping ICE! Though I must say I haven't missed mud....

Booking into things is just too easy! I will now lock my credit card away till Spring. Have a great time at your RC sessions. I love training sessions. I am so much more willing to try new things when someone tells me to. On my own initiative I am very cautious.
 
I'm really, really glad it's thawed enough to hack the last couple of days here. My bank account wouldn't appreciate that kind of assault!

Nor does mine to be fair.... BUT in my defence I am self employed and have been working 7 days a week since it's been snowing as without riding I basically have no life! The girls are also booked into quite a lot over the next few weeks. So it's a good thing I can work extra hours when I need to.
 
I'm also self-employed but easily can't work more while it's dull weather - however, I'm always madly busy from Christmas to June, so I'm planning more stuff for spring. I have my eye on a horseback archery clinic, then a couple of indoor TREC competitions in March - depending on if I want to chase a league placing or not... Plus fortnightly jump training. This pales in comparison with your plans though!

They have a prix caprilli league this year which I'm doing. My big horse isn't wild about schooling, but introduce a jump and he's a delight!

I’m feeling the opposite. Wondering if feb/mar will be a wash weather wise and I should just hibernate until late spring! But that’s cos I’m a bit fed up of not getting out. And saying that, as I didn’t go out today, I might venture out next weekend instead for a little clear round locally!

Have you booked stuff for the girls to do too?

F and I tend to have one lesson a week each (shared RC for me, PC rally for him) and then a couple of competitions per month too :o Busy, busy.....

That all sounds great. Someone on my yard does horseback archery. Her photos look brilliant.

Yes the girls are doing NSEA and Pony club stuff. So yes a very busy month coming up but it includes half term so we are off school/work.
 
I hope you have an awesome time. I usually follow a similar approach and have the year all booked up by now.
Unfortunately vets bill takes priority this year and also means I'm not sure enough of our fitness to risk booking anything. Mare helpfully came in with an over reach on Friday, despite wearing over reach boots...
This did start to get me a bit down so I've switched to booking things that only require me, not the horse to take part so yesterday was a rider confidence session and hopefully off for a lesson on a school master (western) soon too.

But doing things by yourself sounds like a great plan. What was the rider confidence course like?
I am eyeing up a weekend course on horse massage: The Masterson Method. I'd love to be able to massage my own horses properly.
 
It was a talk but definitely very confidence boosting and yes I will be looking up the full course today! I'm more confident than some but less confident than others so I figure its work working on.
 
Ah what a shame JFTD-WS. My OH dithers and we sometimes lose out. I drive him mad by being impulsive - especially when I realise I have double booked myself. And he drives me mad by taking ages to make a decision. We balance each other out nicely!

The Masterson Method is great, did the weekend and then the advanced course a few years ago. I also finished the Equinology Bodyworker cert.

Are there no archery clubs near you JFTD?
 
I need you in my life... In an entirely not predatory and disturbing way as that sounds! However, there'll be another in April and I'm involved in a Club who are trying to set up an archery clinic with the same guy anyway, so it's postponement rather than not getting to do it. With the weather, and the fact March may well still be cold and wet, it's not the end of the world!
