Cabin Fever + Internet = Skint + Excited

Unmounted? Probably, but the technique's different isn't it?

no, mounted? :)

some people say you just have to relearn everything when mounted but I dont think thats true (although I did convert to thumb release from Mediterranean) -alot of archery practise for mounted archery takes place on the ground after all. And I might be wrong but to join the BHAA I think you might need to have done a beginners course at a standard archery club? Its worth doing tbh, they teach you alot about safety etc although they mostly (IME) try and push you towards using sights etc. They arent as much fun as mounted archers ;) as they are very anal about safety and you dont get to do trick shots but it gives you a basis for shooting at home (just dont tell them you are going to do this, it upsets them) on the ground-or from a balance board, gym ball, trampet or fake hoss :D

waaaaahhhhhh so jealous! We haven't been anywhere since before christmas :( I seriously got the hump yesterday as arena still full of sodding snow and the lanes full of ice. Arghhhhh :mad::mad::mad: was reduced to baking to kill time.

Got some plans for next weekend and considering spending money I don't have on a test riding clinic cos it's a judge I haven't ever had before and it might save me schlepping out to a fancy new venue if we're not her cup of tea, lol!

Google tells me, no, no mounted archery clubs in at least 100 miles... Though the chap who runs clinics is listed as an accredited coach (though I knew that anyway, I met his mother at a PC event!). Are you a member of one of the Scottish clubs? Do they run "stuff" up there?

I might look into unmounted archery, thanks. I want to have a play, but I'm not sure it's something I want to devote my life to at this stage, so don't know about joining the BHAA or spending a fortune on it... Mind you, I said that about polocrosse and I became obsessed with it for about 18 months (before deciding it's over-rated!). And I honestly can't be worse at archery than I was at polocrosse!

there's a little BHAA group up the road from me, a friend set it up... don't think either of mine would be remotely suitable but they seem to have quite a bit going on :) um.... fancy a holiday in the forest of dean?

The BHAA is good value tbh, archery is not the cheapest sport to get into. All archery clubs have to pay for affiliation to different societies for insurance purposes and it gets expensive. The BHAA is £40pa with sessions ranging from £10 for unmounted to £30 mounted incuding equipment/horse hire. Sessions tend to be monthy-as yet we dont have to pay a club membership but I hear thats coming. I paid to do my beginners course privately and then went on to do a little bit of ground archery (I wanted to do it anyway) but the club really were not interested in teaching us without using sights etc and OH and I were quite disheartened by the whole thing. If you shoot at home you arent insured so you have to be safe (ie enclosed lol). My mounted archery club is 90 mins away by car-I probably wouldnt take pony there as its quite torcherous route so hire a horse. I am not planning on being competitive at it, its a fun thing to do and I like ground archery so shoot at home.

eta I've been to two BHAA clubs for ground/mounted sessions and the coaching has been brilliant at both of them.

and as a comparison, a ground archery club can work out as much as £70 + affiliations per quarter.

That sounds pretty reasonable really... A quick google suggests the more local unmounted archery costs are pretty cheap for a beginners course, but I don't really want to be paying their membership fees. BHAA sounds very cheap, tbh. I want to have a go and see if I still enjoy it before I commit to huge outlay, but that sort of level is very doable really. I'm just not in a great area - how convenient that I'm relocating in summer ;)

I do hope you're moving to somewhere more civilised ;)

Weve had the same, but finally manged to get on again sunday and Monday, so booked a sj lesson with someone other than my usual instructor who competes at a good level. What he will make of me and my irish draught jumping 60cm heaven knows :p . Then ive booked to use the local indoor on friday night, then booked a combined training comp for me at the weekend and also Aria ( the ginger one, shes doing the 1m class, im doing the 60cm)

So MP, any chance of sharing that baking out ??

Yeah, where's the pic of the cake? Pictures or it didn't happen.

Asha - a rider after my own heart. I'm doggedly sticking to 60 until such time as my brave pants arrive and I feel like I am ready to move up. That could be some time!!

I'm still aspiring to the dizzy heights of 60cm here. I should be hiring an arena with jumps on Friday (tow car / other disasters aside), and I doubt we will do anything like a 60cm fence. A few cross poles in a grid, or with placing poles is more likely!

I do hope you're moving to somewhere more civilised ;)

Maybe... Top of the list is currently central Scotland (pending certain details which need to be settled first!).
