, is she struggling to pass faeces?
Bloat is possible, with uncommon in small breeds, however
Smaller dogs do suffer constipation problems, whereby their stomach can go rock hard if they have not passed faeces for a prelonged period, or urine infections in both dogs and bitches can cause a bloated action, tensing of the stomach.
To be honest, if she is looking uncomfortable, pacing, drooling, panting or struggling for breath, and you are seeing no change or deflation lol....i.e her stomach is rock hard, u NEED to contact your vet asap.
My little rescue Lhasa-apso, used to get a bloated stomach on a frequent basis, but he was bunged up, so liquid paraffin, usually did the trick, but I would not take any chances, if this is the first time this has happened to your girl.
Nor sure if Star or Anne-Jen are on here, they may be of more help, but u do need to contact your vet, not sure if u have by now, but let us know how she is?
It does seem to be lapsing now, loads of wind. Her stomach wasn't as hard as it has been before. She's been out in the garden but all she did was eat grass. What I have been doing though is rubbing her belly. Can't think what has caused it, it has happened before and always at night. It worries me every time she has this. Thankyou for replying, I didn't know who else to turn to x
Try feeding her little and often, sometimes dry food can cause bloat like this when fed in one larger meal, she may also be allergic to something in the food, or gotten her chops around somrthing she should not have
Keep an eye on her passing faeces aswell for a few days, make sure she is not having problems passing.
I am new to any type of forum so I am not speaking out of turn, but I have recently lost 2 of my beloved gsd,s with symptoms similar to that you describe. I won,t go into detail, but I beg you to have her checked by a vet.
she's right as rain now. I don't feed her dried food she always has the same brand food. Would a marrow bone do this?
Anyway thankyou for your input and I will monitor her now to try to find out whats causing this.
THANKS FOR YOUR WELCOME,
[I ALREADY NOTICED I MADE A MISTAKE IN THE WORDING OF MY REPLY].
I LOST BOTH OF THEM TO A CANCER THAT GIVES ALL THE SIGNS OF BLOAT, THE STOMACH FILLS WITH BLOOD AND THEN IS GRADUALLY REABSORBED - UNTIL NEXT TIME...
IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST HEART RENDING THINGS TO WATCH THEM PANTING AND IN DISTRESS WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO HELP. THATS WHY I DIDN,T GO INTO DETAIL.
YOU WOULD THINK AFTER LOSING SO MANY PETS OVER THE YEARS, CATS, DOGS, HORSES - I WOULD BE ABLE TO ACCEPT THAT WHERE THERE IS LIFE - THERE IS, AT SOME POINT - DEATH.
BUT IT HURTS JUST AS MUCH EVERY TIME ONE OF THEM 'LEAVES'
ANYWAY, GLAD YOURS SEEMS TO BE OK, AND THANKS AGAIN FOR THE WELCOME.
