but I have actually got a couple of pics. Black and white cos they are so old, although I suppose it could be worse, they could be in sepia

First one is with a young dog who went on to become an International Champion (specially for Hacking Hack) and the second is a cringeworthy one of me handling. Don't you love the stretch ski trousers
grin.gif

I will now go and hide my head in shame.

I honestly don't have many more. I am not sure what happened but we found very few photos amongst my Mums things, yet I know she had hundreds. There are more of dogs than there are of people. The picture with the dog sitting (your Mum might emember him his show name was Gorsefield Granit) was taken around 1960 I reckon, the other one showing my superb handling skills maybe mid 60s.

My mam was born in 59....will ask her if she knew...have u heard of a woman called Sally Dixon? I think that is the name I forgot last time.....my mam used to show her dogs and she was a little older than my mam.

Just think I was not even alive for another 20+++ years whenthose piccies where taken

Okay, don't rub it in.

Don't think I knew a Sally Dixon, more likely to remember dogs names though if your Mum can remember any of those. The chap in the background to the right of the second pic is Harry Emmett of the famous Emmevale kennels who I am sure your Mum will have heard of. They were very successful in the 70s and early 80s.

Thanks MM - really nice to see a picture of Granit like that, you get so used to seeing them stood in pics.

Must get Mum on here to see those....I have some corkers too - inluding Mum and her lovely hair (!) and my first appearance in junior handling class with D, aged five (with a little help from Alan Graham..)

Harry Emmett loved our J, he could have bred her himself, she was so like one of their champion bitches (her name evades me).

Do you still have copies of THE magazine MM? We still have stacks. It's really weird reading about my mum being pregnant with me or dragging me and two dogs around the circuit when I was little!

Thought you'd like that pic. The bitch in the other pic was by Ludwig of Charavigne. Have got a couple of copies of the magazine annual handbook, but none of the actual magazine. Think they got binned in a house move. Unfortunately when Mum went into the care home and we had to sell the house I gave all her old mags and handbooks to GSD welfare. Wish I had kept them now, just wasn't thinking too rationally at the time I guess, but at least they went to a good cause. Used to cringe a bit when I re-read some of my pieces though

ETA. Do you mean the lovely sable Emmevale bitches, Emmaline and Natasha?

She certainly has his stamp!

I did notes for the BC mag for a while in the late 90s when I was a baby journo, cringeworthy indeed!
We have the handbooks too....I could stick up a few excerpts here sometime if you're feeling nostalgic.

My favourite from the mags is when Mum wrote about Dad, when he jumped for joy as J was awarded a Green Star or something - then came down and sprained his ankle. Silly Daddy....

Right....I picked my mams deteriorating brain...she remembers emmavale(sp) she said something about them having a distinctive tail...that may be me hearing things wrong though
blush.gif
lol

She said sally dixons affix was salambra, she showed her dogs, as well as optica dogs who still live up the road from me mam now and are still showing. I think maybe my mam was younger than the majority at that stage and so showed alot of dogs and no doubt would have been good at it, cos she loved it.....a far cry from whet she thinks now...she said that for many it was about the who knows who amongst other things.

She mentioned Rockverne kennels (ivy Mcgreggor) I think that the name she mentioned as she bought a dog from there and some of her breeding stems from there...although she did not breed much as she went into obedience and began to work them.
She also went into partnership buying a dog from Germany with a pat scott....who has the Labrasco affix...hope this makes sense...cos I aint got a clue
blush.gif
grin.gif

And also mentioned Sparticus(sp) something or other some kind of realtion to her line or the one she imported.......read that back and looks like a load of tripe

She said she had little respect for the majority and got out...without to much more to say lol

She also mentioned gayville(sp) I think these all must be some kind of G.s.d society within her area i.e the northeast.
Does that even make any sense...lol

Bearing in mind I am older than your Mum, watch the comments about deteriorating brains

Funnily enough the only affix I am not familiar with is Salambra. Remember all the others, particularly Pat Scott, she had some lovely animals. We used Labrasco Paco on one of our bitches. Gayville kennels are still going strong now and probably one of the top kennels. We used to be friendly with a lot of breeders from the NE. Shows used to be great fun but like your Mum I lost interest when the fun went out of them and moved onto doing agility with my Shepherds.

She said of all of the breeders she had he upmost resect for pat scott as she began to health test and breed to a high standard, I remember the dog she bought in partnership with pat, that they imported from Germany...he was a lovely big dark stunning boy....alot of my mams pedigree's where mixed with Labraso...well not too many as like I said she only breed a few litters and kept the majority of them.

CALA - my Mum used to stay with the Scotts sometimes - ask your Mum if she remembers any crazy Irish ladies with a penchant for sables.....their dogs (and their bitches) were fabulous.

Not my place to give you HHs mums affix, but ask your Mum if she used to read the German Shepherd Weekly magazine. Both her Mum and I used to be area correspondents in it

Sorry, yes I knew your post was for HH, my reply wasn't clear. Just that I know the affix but didn't want to post it but just thought about the magazines, they were about in the 70s so thought your Mum might have read them - or looked at the pictures
