I went for the past two years!
Amaaazing.
Unbelievable.
Pay for reasonably good seats, it's really worth it!
The rodeo's amazing, and the chuckwaggons are incredibly exciting but seriously don't go to this if you've got qualms over a hint of bloodsport*

it's rough and brutal but amazing
cowboys with broken arms sling themselves on broncs who buck so high it's unreal

GOD
i want to go again.
We're going back in 2012, for sure.

OH and stay to see the night-time show after the chucks. The musical they wrote last year was better than most west-end shows, no joke!
You have to enter into the spirit of things, though - buy yourself a gorgeous leather cowboy hat and yeehaw and eat beefburgers. (I have a pink cowgirl hat which looks especially good for a spot of barrel racing!)

Alberta's gorgeous, aswell. I stayed at this ranch - http://www.tlbarranch.com/ - which doesn't look much but when you're riding bareback in the river or up the canyon side and having a canter on the top, it;s really something special.

PM me if you want any advice on places to go!
There's lots of great rodeos in the area - i love the grit of the small-town ones where you can see everything up close.

AAARGH
i'm so miffed we're not going back this year but that's only because we have all westerned ourselves out.

Have fun!
It's spectacular.

*Last year one of the chuckwaggon ponies dies so there was a bit of a hoo-har, but they're rescued ponies who were destined for the meat-man mostly but i thought i'd point it out
