Ok so we have a 23 yo pony that suffers with copd and has had severe laminitis in the past but since being with us is managed and sound.

When I went out to her at lunch in her stabled I thought she was colic. Rolling around and not happy, so walked her round and put her in the sand school. In there she layed down flat out and didn't move on 2 occasions.

So got her up and have walked her round for 30 40 mins whilst trying to get hold of vet with no luck.

Now she's dragging me to grass to eat and jogging and being perky. Now I've put her back in and she seems back to normal.

I am inclined to keep a close eye on her and not get the vet out as she has improved?

What would u do??

I'd take temperature and pulse, and check colour of gums, and ring the vet for advice. Whatever those values are, it'll give your vet (and you) an idea of how the pony is doing and whether she needs attention urgently.

I'd also be looking to check all poos, so if she's separated from other horses for a while so much the better. That way, you can say exactly how many poos she's done in a certain amount of time, as well as describing their size, consistency etc, all of which are useful to know in potential colic cases.

Having had one pony with surgical colic, I just don't think it's worth hanging around waiting at all if they are showing signs of colic.
