Poor Calli....
No idea how she did it. But came up to the stables one morning to find Calli had done this to herself....

Anyway rang Mr Vet. When he came he said that it couldn't be stitched as the skin was too old, about 6-8 hours. So she somehow did it in the middle of the night in her stable.
She had to be sedated as she woulnd't let him near it, not surprising as he was sawing flaps on skin off!!!
Gave it a clean and bandaged it up. He said she had to be on box rest for 2 months! Great. He was then coming out the next tuesday to re-dress it and assess how she was getting on.

So Mr Vet came back out last Tuesday. Took the bandage off and gave it a clean. He said it was healing VERY well and it should heal quicker than expected! He said that she should only need 3 weeks box rest now and so far there were no signs of infection.

So then we had Mr Vet out again this morning. Nothing has changed really, she is allowed out for a little munch for about 5 minutes but no more. Looked slightly worse than last time which was expected, but still healing well and no signs of infection.

So thats about it for now. Vet back out again next Tuesday.

Not much of an update as we haven't been able to do anything since!
I'd just planned her fitness sessions and clipped her too!!

Bless her. No wonder she didn't want Mr vet poking in it. I'd have passed out if that was on my leg!

She is beautiful though. Even with her slightly gammy leg. What a looker :)

poor calli but isnt she licky to have a lovely mum looking after her - im sure she will heal great and big big hugs - after reading some posts of cruelty reading a post showing a caring kind mum that made me smile - big bg hugs to both you and calli xxxx

It's amazing what horses can do in their stable overnight ! Glad we don't have CCTV as we would never sleep ! Anyhow it looks like it's healing well and going in the right dircetion. Well done and good luck !

QR - WOW! That is a cut and a half, but so glad she is healing well!! It can't be hurting her that much now, as I notice in the second to last pic she is actually resting her good hind leg!!
It looks very clean, and you and your vet seem to be doing a grand job!!

It amazes me how our horses manage to get injured some times!! My instructor swears her's have diaries, and compare nots, release the vet hasn't been for a while and then find things in their stables to hurt themselves on!!

Ouch! Poor Calli :(

Might be worth asking your vet about using Manuka honey under dressings as it speeds healing and is ant-bacterial :)

Oh bless her! She is gorgeous and looks to be healing well! What a kind mummy she has!

Just a thought, in the very cute pic of her lying down it looks like there are scrapes on the wall. Could she have got cast and really bashed/scraped her leg trying to free herself?

Just an idea- it's my latest worry after witnessing mine being a doughnut and getting herself stuck recently- they thrash about with such force!
