Calling all adult pony squishers!

I used to work my livery clients pony, was so much fun! Although, I did get broncked off a pony... oh the shame

In fairness it's easier to come off of a pony for many reasons:
There is nothing in front of you!
There is nothing to either side of you!
It's not as far to the ground so you unconsciously have less of a fear of hitting the floor.
it's a pony - you laugh so hard you will probably fall off again trying to get back on!

There was literally nothing in front, so I ended up in the only puddle in the school, much to the amusement of my instructor, 4 working pupils, my yard manager and my boss... and even much more amusement when the video was posted on FB. I had farriers, physio's, clients and the like taking the mick for weeks.... especially as I brought ponies in! Lmao

Post the video, Wayne!

Yes, of the animals I have the one I feel I'm most likely to part company with is the smallest one.

I'm just going to say now nice it is to see all these lovely pics with adults riding ponies, thus proving that anyone over 16 doesn't HAVE to ride a horse. It's perfectly alright to have fun on something pint sized and be closer to the ground! :)

Yes, it is nice how it's almost coming back in fashion. Years ago it was quite normal for adults to ride ponies. When I was a small kid many adults competed in gymkhanas and handy pony (now it's only me!) and my dad show jumped on 14.2's as an adult. Then things changed, once you were 16 you had to have a horse, people on ponies were looked down on and sneered at by some, and some would assume that you rode a pony 'cause you couldn't handle a horse. IME ponies will test you more.

I don't make a habit of riding the little guy, but I'm 5 ft 6' and this is me on my sister's 12.2 Welshie - I think I look surprisingly in proportion. He certainly fits me better than my 13 year old sister's hastily borrowed hat!

I'm 5'2" and currently have a 15.2 Welsh D but if I do get another one I think I would get a little 14.2 pocket rocket.
Rode one of the rs ponies the other day as mines lame and he was 13.2 and was cool so responsive and was fun to ride.

Good for you, I bet you are having much more fun than on a 16HH TB :)

I couldn't ask for better :) I had a friend who sold her outgrown pony and got a bigger horse and it was horrible, she never really got on with it and missed the pony. I think that has always stayed in my mind. Plus I used to ride tb type horses when I was a groom and they just didn't really stand out for me. I'm sure there are some lovely horses out there but I was always much more excited by exercising the kid's ponies lol I have a dodgy knee as well and dismounting a big horse is a killer!

Pleease can we have the video? :D

I'm the same height as you 5'5" and I have a chunky 14.2hh Welsh D mare who actually fits me pretty perfectly and doesn't struggle at all. I've also chucked my 6'2" friend on her (he's skinny as anything) and though he had to ride with short stirrups both him and my girl were comfortable.

And below is a recent picture of me riding my friends 13.1hh first pony bareback, YES my feet may be at her knees (I just have long legs :/) but when she's fully fit we hack out with no problem. And as you can see, there's pretty much nothing to her, she wears a foal sized headcollar and her shoes have to be ordered in by the farrier, the little dink!
