Hi All,

Am taking the arab to an in-hand show..... shes got a lovley movement (when she wants to move!) - am worried she wont be up for it and plod around like a bored mare! any tips for getting her in stand nicely *arab pose style!?*

I can get her to raise her head - but she gets bored and walks forward after a second!

Shes not straight eqyption looking,..which is what the judges tend to like!(in my opinion!)....views?

try a treat in your hand to get attention it worked with my arab, however he did pose very well for himself, you might find with the adrenalin going you dodnt need to
 
There's a bit of a debate about the whole 'arab pose' some like it, some don't. Personally I prefer the natural pose - 4 square with neck naturally arched - as sodapop said a treat works wonders for this.

If I were you I'd practise standing square (like your photo) but with the mare paying attention to you, not head in the air (where the treat cmes in handy).

Other than that be prepared to run FAST! To show her off to her best you really need to get her moving in trot

I agree with the others - a treat works wonders! Have a practice in the field and the school, get her doing it in all areas as then she will be happy to pose wherever. If possible try it when there are other horses around, so she is ok in crowds at the show. When I had an Arab he had been taught from an early age how to pose. A but of grass to nibble and he stood perfectly!

Not that I'm any sort of expert - my boy is shown by a professional handler, as quite apart from my having no skill, there's no way I'd be able to keep up with him in trot!

The AHS have said that judges this year will be instructed to ask for a more 'natural' pose, so you don't have to try to get her head up the air, just show that natural arch of the neck.

Go for the natural pose, stretching is not really necessary unless your at the europeans, just get her stood square in front and don't worry about her back legs. My boy loves chewing the end on a schooling whip which keeps him stood still. Also don't forget to talk to her. Finally practise practise and again practise extended trot, done well it looks stunning but breaking into canter ruins it. Above all just have fun.

She was out of Azaq Johar (Gonorar (su) / Pearl of Destiny) and her sire is Ibn Mikhan (Mikhan of Pulpits / Bint Rushna)

We did some halter training last night, which went ok,....she just wouldnt stand still though! - im going to walk her over the Aldershot horse show and see how she behaves and do some training over there!

Oh wow - she's very closely related to my stallion.

He's by Psytadel (Padrons Psyche x Bint Bey Shah) out of Teeba (Gonorar x Queens Topaz).

Did you ever see Gonorar? He was the most spectacular mover ever! Won the British National Supreme Championship in hand... Very beautiful horse. Pearl of Destiny was a lovely mare too.

Lucky you - your mare is v well bred as well as v pretty!
