well i have some chickens some very old some very young, and one of my elder ones was lay in the grass for ages in the rain i went out to get her and she didnt even put up a fight or anything when i got her ive put her in a stable on her own on a bed of straw with acsess to food and water, when i put her down she did not move, apart from closing her eyes, is there anything else i can do?

keep her warm, a cardboard box with straw/shavings in inside the house and a bowl of water to drink from, and bowl of stuff to peck at very close is a good start.... it's possible she's got cold and wet, or come down with a bug, or she's just coming to the end. :( poor henny. I hate it when they do this, you feel so helpless!

I have an ex-batt that does this. I end up syringing water down her, think the heat dehydrates her. They dont do heat very well. She picks up after a few days. Also give her soaked layers pellets for a couple of days and keep out of heat

It depends if she was laying in the rain as she was already ill and couldn't move to get in, or if she was fine before she got wet?

If she was fine before, you need to warm her up. If you can take her into the house, and put her in a box somewhere warm, do that, if not wrap her in towels, or a blanket, or a rug even, and make sure she has some water, even if you have to give it her by a syringe. See if you can get her to eat a mashed up boiled egg too.

Good luck, with hens it is sometimes just their time. Don't leave her to suffer if this is the case.

for me it usually means its time to 'get the shovel out!' I dont actually 'get the shovel out', I take the dear deceased up to the vineyard and leave her under the walnut tree for the fox. We have a deal, she can have the dead ones but in turn leaves the live ones alone. So far, so good.

i know i sound sad and some people will think its just a chicken shes my fave had her for 6 years now!!, shes in a box in the house, with some soaked layers pellets some water a boiled egg on a bed of straw, i just couldnt let something eat her would make me worst!x

I know eggsactly (sorry, couldn't resist!;)) what you mean! Our hens are brilliant little characters, and for 3 nearly identical black hens they are such different persons from each other! I was shouted at by one yesterday for shuffling another out of the way!

I hope she perks up once she's warm and dry and had something to eat/drink.
