Have any of you that own an ID X TB found that your horse has forgotten that it has ID in it and taken on all the TB traits?

Just wondered because my ID X TB that I have owned for 10 days so far has decided that she's all TB and doesn't do rain and is generally a big wuss!!!! I'm hoping that one day soon she'll remember she's part ID!!!!!!!!!!

Any tips for a new ID x TB owner?

Mine is *supposedly* ID X TB, but I've never seen the TB part. Honestly, I think the closest she has been to a TB is the one at my old yard! My vet is convinced she's got some Iberian in her... she's just a big lump of meat, not at all a wuss and not at all TB-like!
Funny you should think the TB makes yours a wuss though, the Anglo Arab I ride goes all "arab-y" when he wants to be prissy!

Ha! No, mine selectively forgets she is in any way ID freequently! Probably as often as my OH can't here me when I ask him to do something.

She'll probably get better as she settles in and you get used to each other x

ahaa, we have an IDxTB and he's just like a big huge 17hh pony
smile.gif

always has been aswell, he's 25 now
smile.gif
but even in his younger years he's always been solid and would rather run around tugging on the ponies tails in the rain than go in the shelter

Yes, there is a horse at the livery stables ID x TB, who has a very TB mind.

Some horses take after one parent/trait more than the other.

My Clydey x Highland is more highland than clydey, but the size of a Clydey and the looks and mind of a Highland.

Mine's a wuss!!!!

The YO's call him Precious!!! He is a freezer - needs a MW and HW rug on in the depths of winter and countless rugs at night (he's not mollycoddled......honest!!!).

He hates puddles too but doesn't balk at water on the xc course - strange boy!!

I think the only ID bit in him is his darn thick mane and tail!!!

Kerilli - don't think I could risk my life hunting 'Precious'....spends most of his time on his back legs showing everyone his belly unless he's in front!!!

Mine has a TB brain, he also doesn't like bad weather, he has the TB coat and is a very sensitive soul!!
I've had him for 10 years now and if anything he's got worse
smirk.gif
probably down to me as I do tend to bend to his every whim.....

I have a ID X TB on loan .... he acts like a pony, very cheeky, but very capable ..... in fact I think he might be a re-incarnation of the Thelwell pony ....

My (borrowed in case owner reads this) one is 3/4 TB. he seems to have a pressure switch located somewhere under his saddle.

Saddle off = ID
Saddle on = TB

HUNTING!!!
shocked.gif
I can't imagine that I would ever have the guts for that nor that I would risk this clumsy mare's legs. Although I’ve found out that she has been one day eventing at a very low level of 3’max. She'd be booted up in the field already if it wasn't for the fact she lives out 24/7. I've just put an XL sausage boot on because she stomped on her own pastern! Over reach boots to follow on Thursday when I take the ones I've already bought back for smaller ones.

She's pulled two shoes off but that’s down to the previous farrier, mine is coming on Thursday.

She behaves like a dainty TB Diva that needs an entourage to pamper to her every whim - that'll be me then!!!! Doesn’t do rain, or dirt – No dirt - I’m very pleased about as she’s grey!!!
grin.gif

I think the PONY is in there screaming to get out!!! I can’t wait to hack her out; I just know she’s going to be great fun with lots of cheek!!! But she loves the donkeys!!!
shocked.gif

Someone said to me last night “You were bound to have a bad start” and I said “How d’you work that one out??!!” and she said “Because you’ve waited so long!” That’s so true, haven’t had a horse of my own for 12 years and been looking after other peoples during that time. Funny, any problems with other peoples horses – no panic or worry from me, just calmly deal with it. My own horse – worry; panic, instant vomiting (or it feels like I will) and running round like a headless chicken!!! Actually, that’s all inside me, on the outside I show Ella that I’m fine and not at all in a state of panic!!!
crazy.gif

Someone tell me it will all be fine and I’m worrying unnecessarily!!!! Please!!!
crazy.gif

Don't mind how many rugs she needs in the winter but its meant to be summer - I really don't want to get into rugging already!!!
shocked.gif
Although she comes in when it rains she is warm so thats whats stopped me rugging her and because she does have the option to come in.

Any other info will be gratefully recieved!!

my TB X ID looks like a big bog pony too ! but has feathers and a mane like a native , the finest most sensitive Tb skin and coat ever but doesnt get cold, ID size feet with TB horn ( so collapse all the time ). Thinks like a pony and drives me nuts with his deviousness, works like an ID with inexplicable TB moments out hacking ( good fun when the 16.3 chunky ID type is doing expressive fly bucks ) but he's mine and I love him. On a more usefull note I got good feeding advice from dodson and horell when I couldnt get him to move but couldnt stop him exploding - ended up on endurance cubes for slow release energy. and wait and see with regard to rugs as I said mine has feathers but really thin sensitive coat but is a hot boy even though you'd think he would get cold he hates the rain as well but gets too hot if over rugged. Oh also blows up into a blob at the first sniff of good grass and goes loopy on haylage. have fun. they are great if sometimes unconventional

You've described mine perfectly. She's also been out all summer with no rug in the rain and I never have to feed her as she is a natural born fatty.

Yeah, she doesn't need any feed and she's very clever, the elec fence is very low to stop the shetlands escaping and Ella could jump over it if she wanted to but she just leans over and eats the grass on the otherside which hasn't been poo'd or wee'd on!!! I bought her some Dodson and Horrell Safe and Sound which is what her previous owner fed but she's had three handfuls, think it will go off before she's finished the sack!!!

She has the build of a TB and I just haven't found any ID in her yet except her tail which I have thinned and is now a pleasure to groom. I'm on a mission to find her ribs and the ID in her!!!

I know I've been moaning but I do absolutely adore her!!! She's my big baby!!!

Well I can beat you my ID XTb has been mine for (counts on fingers)3.5 days. His mane and tail are TB his ears are donkey and his feet are as Irish as they come so far he seem like a cool dude but I am neurotic anxious annie.

I think hes going to be one helluva horse I had a lesson on him today and he was wonderful he has a bit of a dollop personality I thnk he is Irish Draught ridden and TB handled he gets a bit precious.

mine has a TB brain about 80% of the time but the ID does come out at times
grin.gif

when out hacking when i first had her she was such a wuss scared of leaves and everything but then i made her hack out alone and she was really spooky at every little thing
now she has to calm down the other TB and can be very sensible
grin.gif
but at other times (like at the gallops) the Tb comes out and she starts jumping in the air and has to lead everyone whilst jumping from side to side spooking
grin.gif

wouldnt change her for the world though
grin.gif

definately having another TBxID for my next horse

Oi, you lot!
What are all these offensive comments about TB brains and hardiness?
My nearly 20yr old TB lives out all year...without a shelter...and could hack quietly down the side of the main railway line whilst the intercities passed by.
On behalf of sensible, hardy TBs everywhere, I demand an apology!

But isn't hell pretty warm? The turmoil would also be a pretty good de-spooker too wouldn't it?

And my new girl is a wuss but she's bomproof, apparently doesn't mind army tanks!!!
shocked.gif
