Slight long shot but I have been trying to track down any videos or pictures of the ror series at county shows, with little success! I would really like to aim towards taking my exracer to one of these at the end of the summer.

I just wondered if anyone could offer opinions on how to improve our turnout, be as honest as possible! My jodphurs are in fact beige but look white in these pics, I was thinking maybe slightly darker ones?

Also if anyone had any tips really, or could just offer me a brief overview of the order of things. Im working on him inhand and being ridden by others in prep! I have only shown at local level currently so any advice would be enormously received. Thank you! Here he is...

Um, if you stalk my old threads there are several RoR reports with many pictures in for some guidance of what happens.

But I reckon your jods need to be less pale, a brighter tie and a non-white shirt, a bigger browband and way fewer plaits... I had about 7 down Reg's giraffe neck, when I usually do 15 for eventing!

Tips? Be prepared for high spirits. Reg is Mr Dopey at all times, and yet found county shows a huge atmosphere and did flip slightly in a way that is not like him at all. Practice making him trot out with his neck arched and flowing, away from you slightly. Make sure your stirrups are big enough for men feet, and he's happy to be ridden by anyone. In terms of riding, you need to look like you're just sitting there in the perfect position and he's doing it all for you :) Make sure he's used to being overtaken and not minding, and be good at spotting problems ahead and circling away from them!

These are some from the Norfolk Show, of my sister's ex-racer. He came 8th of 22, despite being an utter twonk :D He is huge though, which helps! His topline is better than it appears in these photos, he was very tense and was throwing many toys!

Your boy is utterly beautiful, how much did he race? He doesn't look like an ex-racer at all!

Beautiful horse, get a straight cut saddle to show of his shoulder, plus you can then lengthen your stirrups :P, I would also drop his noseband down one hole

Your horse looks very well and nicely turned out.

Having been a judge of ROR many times I would suggest that you find a slightly longer jacket for yourself and go for a brighter tweed. Your hair would look better in a bun, I can't see exactly but it looks from the photos to be just a loop ponytail, apologies if that is not the case. Always use black elastic for your number and I second the not white shirt and brighter tie. Also agree that you need a straighter cut saddle. Your hat looks quite big for in the photos but that may be just the way it appears but I would suggest if you can afford it getting a hat with a flesh coloured chin strap, Charles Owens are good.

Above all, showing is a little like synchronised swimming, keep smiling no matter how wrong it is going, often you can fool the judge into believing that the mistakes are in fact part of your show!! Also, it is far nicer to judge someone who is enjoying themselves!

Good luck and have fun, showing is the opinion of one or two people on the day so each show will be different for you.
