How do you control your rug buying urges?

Now that the weather has finally started to turn, I keep thinking about rugs.

Do I have enough rugs in the right sizes?
Are any of their rugs finally beyond repair?
Are there any rug bargains out there that I can justify getting?

The worst thing is that I have actually managed to sell an old rug that wont ever fit any of my horses. Now this 'rug money' is burning away in my pocket.

It's terrible. I need to cancel my Paypal account and lock my wallet away. :o

I mainly doing it by looking at the rugs, clicking the drop down sizing, and realising that instead of a horse I managed to buy an elephant. And therefore few rugs go up to his size (7'3) AND won't give him the friday night mini-skirt look! I don't know how everybody with normal sized horses controls themselves!!!

ha ha! my rug fettish has worsened since the arrival of willow last year... those foalies grow so fast... need rugs every few months.... oh lord! :p

i have kept myself from going too mad though.... ha ha! although her light-middleweight that i just bought her is so not going to fit her coming out of the winter.... i feel another purchase coming on... HOLD ME BACK!! :p :p

I know and mine isnt rugged yet despite having half her body clipped, but in a rain sheet she is too warm and then gets itchy. I have 20 rugs for the one pony and keep looking at more.OH thinks I need help

i controll it by thinking of my dad's response when I show him the latest item to be stored in the garage, it usually goes alon the lines of "oh for ****'s sake where are you going to put that one?"
"in the garage daddy  "
"why dont you buy yourself a new coat instead of buying your horse one?"
"because she needs it daddy! she's only a delicate little flower"
"she's a hairy cob, NOT a delicate little flower, shes about as delicate as a hammer!"

needless to say "daddy" doesn't like my rug buying sprees! :p
just a little not i only call him daddy when im in trouble :D im not a bratty daddy's girl honest! :p:D

I have one of these who I can only buy rugs from the big horse shop for, although the rugs that haven't fit him (other brands) I still have kept- just in case!! That's when you know you have a problem! I also have a "normal" 6ft 6 tb who has an array of rugs, it's a proper mental health disorder I think! :)

I don't I can't!! It's too late for me rugs anonymous Is the only option left for me.

I went to an equine evening in the local tack shop and specifically told my friend don't let me buy anything and what did I do? Bought another rug!! Whoops but I need it that's what I keep telling myself.

I look at the money in my bank account and think it would be much better spent on some new matchy :P
Not really, I was a bit addicted but I figure now I have enough rugs to just layer them up instead of buying heavy weights.
I'll only buy rugs if they are mega cheap and a really good deal.

^ This is soooo true. I have two that are growing and it actually makes me happy that I will need to buy the next size up at some point. Although the yearling is using the three year olds old rugs (boo, no rug buying excuses :( ), luckily though she did rip one lightweight rug badly, so when he needs that in 5ft6, I need to buy a new one (yay :D ).

^ I do need a new coat, but I'd rather buy a rug and keep the grubby coat for a while longer (I'll stick it in the washing machine... It'll be fine :) ).

Tasteofchaos, you are so sensible. Big horse = less tempting bargains.

The answer is obvious... I need another horse, a great big, giant one... which will of course need great big rugs. :p

ETA. I can see myself becoming addicted to Matchy too. This is very bad.

*sobs* none of mine fit weatherbeeta rugs (too big around the neck) it was a beautiful silver Taka that I sold. :( Miss it already.

dont cry for the taka... they are not worth your tears! ha ha! i have on here... 5'6 high neck heavyweight... slightly damaged and muddy... i'l pay you to take it! the only rugs i have ever despised...!

we have a caravan... full of rugs... its a sickness! it used to be boots... i replaced one for another! :o

I've managed to resist.........................................at the moment :p
I HAD to buy rugs when I bought my Welsh D. I bought her 6foots, but she could really do with 6'3". I'm fighting the temptation though as she's rising 4yo and WILL need bigger rugs next year as she grows :).
I had a load of 5'3" & 5'6" rugs which I gave to my YO, in exchange for a discount off my livery. She has a few ponies that needed rugs, and mine were all neatly piled up not being used. I kept 1x l/w, 1x m/w and 1x h/w turnouts for my 2 1/2yo NF, along with a couple of fleeces, my thermatex, a masta cooler and one stable rug :D.
BUT..........I'm now thinking my NF needs a spare m/w :o
I keep looking at rugs...can't help it...it's soooooo hard not to buy any :D.
She doesn't like neck covers, the rug she has on now had a detatchable neck cover, and she ripped it beyond repair . She loves having rugs on, (especially since she came to Scotland from the south of England, it's soooooo much colder/wetter/windier up here :D) just not with a neck cover
I'm trying my hardest to resist............................................really :p

This!

I was on line looking for rugs for Fany, who only has 4 or 5, and bought one for Captain who at last count had 22! So then had to go back on line and buy Fany's rug! Must stop buying rugs! I will join Lozhug in Rugs Buyers Anonymous Association (RBAA) anyone else?

I am a rug addict and I get excited when new ride away or robinsons catalogue comes out! I've sold some of my older turnout rugs to my field neighbour so my two currently have 1 m/w standard neck each, a m/w full neck each and also a h/w one. Am currently perusing eBay for more bargains, got my cob a brill rhino wug off there so now I'm a bit addicted! I like buying turnouts more than stable rugs/fleeces etc!! Need help!
