I have a farrington saddle, well 2 now actually.

The first i got him is a VSD but when I started jumping I was finding not enough knee roll for me so I had a farrington GP altered slightly so that it still gives him loads of room for his shoulders to move but has slightly extended knee rolls for me.

Comfy for horse and very comfy for rider...everyone loves my saddles

my problem is hes widening like mad at the moment and dont want to spend an absolute fortune on a saddle if its only going to fit a short while. Ive got a sandringham to try off a friend tonight so ill see how that goes. thanks for the replies keep them coming!

I have a Ideal H&C on my Sec D, fits his wide shoulders and flat withers perfectly. I love the saddle so much I bought another one for my little coloured cob. Very comfy to ride in too :)

Bought my D T8 xw cob on saterday rode him in it today, so comfy and he's a lot happier as he has low withers but a bit of a dip as he's got a long back.

A Kings Richmond straight cut show saddle.

Was made to measure as a 4 year old, he's now 9 and still in the same saddle which I tend to have checked once a year unless I feel it needs tweaking sooner.

an ancient straight show cut barnsby saddle (the stereotypical, flat as a board, no rolls etc) and a frank baines dressage saddle.

people focus too much on the width, its the shape of the tree that matters, most are too curved (wintecs especially)

Mines just grown out of his Wintec last week, Ive ordered a made to measure from Heritage :) working hunter style for his shoulders, short back but wide, plus he has a wide spine and also shorter flaps as he is 14'2!!

Ideal H&C. He's had the same saddle since 4 & is now 7, the flock has been tweaked a few times but that's all.

I had Ideal H&C (highland & Cob) gp - very nice, comfortable and fairly straight but with a knee roll. Also the Farrington/Derby House working hunter saddle.

Kent and Masters Cob plus is also very good.

I have mine in a wintec GP, cheap with changeable gullet, I have also heard kent and masters are meant to be good for them as well as these have the changeable gullet system too.

well i tried a wintec vsd on him today with a wide gullet and it was nowhere near! hardly touched him, put a sandringham on him and it looked like it fits like a glove, took some pics and trundled back to the saddlers. Told him the wintec didnt fit and showed him the sandringham (which is my friends) and said that fits i think and showed him the pics of it on him from all angles. he agreed although is coming out next week to double check. IT turns out the sandringham is a x wide!! It does fit him lovely though, its pretty straight cut so will allow for his shoulders. my friends also selling a fylde saddle aswell which fits him beautifully but i think ill stick with a gp. Im so chuffed that ive found a saddle that fits and i can carry on riding him away

Have you looked at Saddle Company Saddles? They can be widened or made narrower very easily.
The serge panel (if that it the option you go for) is great as it moulds easily to the horses back and the horses don't sweat so much in them.
They use lovely leather or can be part synthetic so they are extremely light.
Their new designs are really nice.
