Calling all section d lovers

Like the horse, but from what it says in the ad, knowing the breeding and just looking the presence he has in the photos, I think he will be the type to need a lot of work - not just a bit of hacking (it does say that in the ad if you read it so the seller isn't trying to hide anything). Is that what you're after, or when you say hacking do you mean meandering round on a long rein chatting a couple of times a week?

I would say that he would want and NEED to do more than a bit of hacking and dressage given his age and breeding.

He looks nice though.

Looks nice but considering that it says specifically they want to sell him to do more than just hacking I wouldn't really say he would be suitable for what you want.

He is stunning and, I have to say, he would be wasted if he didn't compete. As Bethie pointed out - it does say in the ad that he could go to the top and it would be a huge shame (no matter how much you like him) for him not to fulfill his potential.
You could also have a bored and therefore potentially naughty horse on your hands if you weren't to compete him to the best of his abilities.

You also mention that you're worried about his lack of age. That says it all to me. You know in your heart that you need/want something more mature wh would be happy with a pootle on a long rein while you chat to your friend and enjoy the counrtyside as you amble by. Sorry, getting nostalgic for summer and getting out there with my cob.

Basically you answered your own question. He is gorgeous but not what you need - there will be the perfect partner out there and you'll find him or her with patience: We can't all have a Ferrari - farmers would look ridiculous trying to plough the fields!

Hi well i have donkeys years of dealing with welsh cobs and for the show ring this lad imo is just local level quality, nice enough but no wow factor, from pics i dont see any of the presence they speak about he actually looks flat and uninterested in what he is doing ,I do think he would be an good hack poss some dressage with the correct schooling ,she does say he is good hack already and i think they just think he will be worth more if they can sell him a a potential show animal, dont be put off by age i have found over many many years that horses are what they are and if you were to try him and found him sane and sencible enough for what you want then he would be fine age doesnt always mean more sencible ,if you like him theres no harm in going to try him hun .

He is absolutely stunning, I'd be there in a shot if I was looking/had some money in the bank!!

If he's not a million miles away go and have a look, you've got nothing to loose apart from a little time and petrol...

Can you tell me what you think of this horse. I am on the look our for a section d or similar just bit worried about the age (or lack of it!!) but looks nice, just for hacking and a bit of dressage :D

agree with many others; he's by Llanarth Solo, old stallion now but one I'd have used if hadnt had my own at the time. Brilliant temperament, good for competition too, the head on the 5yr old is great with a wonderful eye. If genuine, well worth the money I'd have thought.

I think he looks fab, I would be temped to look myself if I was looking! IMHO welsh D's aren't happy hack horses, I almost liken them to a collie dog(!) all the ones I've met and the 3 I have owned have needed alot of stimulation and are always looking for innovative ways of getting out of stuff!
Now I know there are going to be people saying 'mines good as gold, v calm, easy etc' and they'll be right. My girl now is as good as gold but likes to be out and about doing stuff.

They are like the little girl (or boy!) with the little curl...when they're good they're very very good, and when they are bad they are horrid!
Luckily mine is good 99% of the time now but she wasn't in the beginning.

Having said all this if the horse is good for what you want then go for it!! The horse doesn't know how much potential he has! So so long as you both are happy then thats great and go for it! At least go see him, no harm in that!
Let us know, I think he is really lovely :)

Echo this - he's just not 'presency' enough for top level, from the pics it looks as though he's only done local level up to now anyway. I'm sure the seller's first priority is a good home, I would go and try him.

Wont let me open the link, but i recently backed a 10 year old Section D mare. Who is my own and has been a dream within arround nine months she went hunting. Im looking forward to our future and i hope she is with me for life, shes my best friend.
Good Luck with the search!!

I think he's gorgeous! Well worth a look!

My Welshy is a happy hacker, but I acquired her when she was twelve and she had already been there and done that as far as competing was concerned. And we like to go on longer, more adventurous hacks. And there's never a dull moment with that smart Welshy attitude. :)

I think she *would* be bored and frustrated if I rode her round and round in circles around the school every day.

I echo what most of you have said, from the picture I do not think he has the presence to go to the very top showing BUT a section d that has that presence may be difficult to live with on a day to day basis.
If you are going to use him for a hack and dressage there should be plenty to keep his mind occupied. I'd certainly go for a look, what have you to lose.
