hi i have a 16 year old throughabred xracehorse and windsucks, he is in god condition and is very chilled out not typical throughabred, he maintains weight but you can see ribs still now and again although carries weight well, he is on readymash extra 3x a day, plus conditioning nuts and superblood moliichop plus adlib haylage and access to grass everyday, any thoughts ideas, also on protexin gut balancer, is any of yours like this, please post pics if possible, very bright and no problems in himself.

pics would help. if he has access to plenty of grass he may have a grass belly, which can make them look slightly ribbier as it pulls the tummy down, i think.
also, have you had worm counts done, i'd definitely check that as it sounds as though you're feeding him well.

I've also got a laid back 16yo windsucking tb! Mine also has a rather large belly too, and I think being a little bit older also exaggerates this. He's not actually ribby at the moment, but I remember when I got him last year he had little muscle, was ribby and had a large stomach! I'm no expert by any means but perhaps trying to muscle him up a bit and work him properly might help him to tuck up underneath?

I feed mine Baileys no. 4 when he needs to gain condition ie overwinter and their performance balancer in the summer when on lots of grass. Any grass he eats goes straight to his belly so perhaps this may be the case with yours? xx

My TB's are on shredded sugarbeet ( shredded not speedi or nuts) as it stays in their digestive system longer so they get more vits/mins etc out of it and they feel fuller for longer . I also feed NAF Pink Powder and Feedmark Benevit . If your horse windsucks have you treated for stomach ulcers or asked your Vet re stomach ulcers? If you sort the reason for windsucking then they will be a happier horse and carry weight better . Haylage can be a bit tart for windsuckers esp if they have stomach ulcers , they need blandish feed . The windsucking may not stop as it can become a habit ( endorphins are released so they get abit of a fix from it , like us getting a good/comfort feeling after chocolate ! )

Top Spec cool conditioning cubes, naf pink powder, sugar beet and afla a oil.

I find fworks for my exracer who struggles to carrie weight.xx
