I'm currently looking for a 3yo unbacked gelding to bring on to event. I've been looking for about two months now, and have only been to view one horse!

I check all the usual places i.e horsequest, h&h, horsedeals etc everyday, but can't seem to find anything worth looking at (I'm sure about 70% of those advertised seem to be mares).

I have a decent budget - but not silly money - so why can't I find anything, am I looking in the wrong places? If anyone has anything that might suit please PM me (hope this isn't classed as advertising). I'm in the south east/east anglia, but am willing to travel.

Thanks

Guess your looking in the wrong places ,i sold the said same thing about 8 weeks ago without advertising him other than on my website so perphaps looks at the websites of studs likely to breed that sort of thing.
Sadly i dont have any 3 year olds left but can you put any better a description ie size breeding etc as know people that do have things for sale and i'm not to far away from you.

would this guy suit you? hes 7/8th TB out of a Namid mare really nice by our Stallion 3/4TB strong Eventing bloodlines behind the stallions pedigree.Zhivago sire as Tullibards Shakespear sire of Kilfinnie 11 ridden by Paul Tapner 538 BE Pts, 24th place at Badmington 09, and 15th place at Burghley 09

of he does not belong to me
his owner details are on as well.

I'm looking for something that will make about 16-16.2hh, preferably with proven eventing bloodlines, though I do have an open mind and wouldn't turn down a horse that moved well and had good conformation if it's bloodlines were unproven. The only thing I'm not keen on is the continental showjumping type warmbloods that we are seeing more of in eventing now.

I've evented to intermediate and although I know there's quite a lot of luck involved, I'm aiming to find a horse that will one day go all the way to four star.

I've looked at quite a few of the stud's websites, needless to say this hasn't come to anything, perhaps you could suggest some of the less well known ones that I might not have thought of?

Thanks

ah i just sold a stunning red and white sport horse gelding 6 weeks ago, he was 3 year old un backed. he was long reinned and mouthed excellant in every way. you will find one, just give it time. as i here alot of people saying there is alot of scrap in the sales at the min but you will get lucky.

Have you tried looking for a young ex racer? I bought mine back in march for £650 as a just 3 year old, good bloodlines, brave and willing and have popped him over a couple of cross poles and he shows a pretty good jump for a flat racer :D I have had two with robellino/roberto lines and they have both proved to be very scopey and have adapted well to the flat work side of things as well.

It really is an unbacked horse I'm looking for - speaking from past experience I want a blank canvas, without 'issues' that have been created by someone else. Of course I appreciate that there are probably many ex-racers who are lovely and straightforward, and don't have problems at all, I just want to go through the experience of starting a youngster from scratch.

Ask Hartpury college quickly, may be sold but about a month ago they had a amazing 3 year old Take it to the limit x Concorde for sale, gelding. sounds warmbloodish but actually is about 3/4 TB. If thats sold, then they may have something else.
Otherwise Id reccomend you try Cavan/Gorsebridge sales, or sticking a wanted advert on horsequest/H&H

Hmm will get my thinking cap on but have you thought about ringing people like Mill Laws ,Revolution and Weston Justices owners to start with as i know all of them breed a few of there own and may well have something for sale or know of people that have used there stallions that may have.
Godington stud although not TB have blood type horses that are proven eventing.

We only have two year olds 3/4 tb's

It might be worth looking at 2 year olds. Many 3yo will be started by now and so not be what you are looking for. Also the 3yo will have been picked through and often the best will already have been sold as most people don't start looking at horses until they are 3. FWIW the last young horse I bought was a 2yo and I could not have afforded to buy her as a 3yo.

You can still pick them up it will on be those destined to run at 2/3 that will have been started. If last weeks H&H was anything to go by, Ireland is your best bet, giving them away it seems.

The good ones are certainly not being given away. Looked at a TB last night perfect for your requirements. 3yo by Wizard King substantial bone fabulous limbs, massive front, great mover 16.3 will probably make 17hh, lightly broken with a view to going into training at 4 but is for sale. His temperament is divine and if I needed another horse I would have begged borrowed or stole to buy him.

Hi all

Just a quick post to say thanks for all your suggestions, please keep them coming! I'm currently working through the stallion list on the SHBGB website, contacting the various studs, so fingers crossed.

Thanks

Hannah

Would you not consider a mare? I do have a 3yr old filly, just been gently & professionally backed. Proving bold, willing, trainable, level headed. etc. An excellent prospect! 3/4 TB! BEF 1st Premium (would be a higher 1st Premium now) Was Top Eventing Foal & Highest Scoring Horse of the day in 2007!

Irishlife, it was said tongue-in-cheek I am sure the decent ones are holding their own, certaintly did not seem a problem on Sat night at Addington with people spending money buying horses.
