I've just had a call from a cousin of mine who has taken up riding again after a long break. She has been having lessons at a local riding school, but isn't enjoying it anymore as they do the same thing every time and she doesn't feel like she is getting anywhere.

Are there any 'good' riding schools around in this area? By good, I mean that they don't just teach you how to stay in the saddle in walk, trot and canter on a half dead horse

I learnt at Rawreth Equestrian Centre and the horses/instructors were a good standard then (in the early 90s) - I can't comment about now though.

I have heard good things about Ragwood Riding Centre as well

Well she lives inbetween Brentwood and Chelmsford, but I think she'd be willing to travel if she could find somewhere that is good.

Thanks little_flea and Nats_uk, I will have a look into them

Marvens in Wickham Bishops
Darcy Riding School in Tolleshunt Darcy
Chelmsford Equestrian in Chelmsford
Brook Farm in Stock
St. Margaret’s Riding School in Billericay

Maybe it'd be an idea to try a few different places and choose which she prefers.

I used to ride at Runningwell Ec many years ago and it used to be very good back then but it did get taken over by other people and only rode a few times there while they owned it but i always enjoyed it and they had some lovely horses specially Dusty!

Also ridden at Rawreth Ec which was always ok. School wasn't amazing but dont remember doing the same each week have some nice ponies unsure about horses as i had a loan pony there anyway that i rode in lessons.

Ragwood used to be good also.

Another one is Park Lane Ec
