Calling every horse owner, rider or equine enthusiast in Britain – come and share your knowledge of veterinary care and therapy at www.equinesurvey.co.uk by answering nine questions, completely anonymously for two minutes! As part of my third year degree in equine science I am carrying out a research on 'the public perception of the use of equine therapies in relation to the law'. For my data collection, I have designed a short on-line questionnaire (only nine questions and about two minutes long) investigating what sort of complementary therapies people use for their horses and people's knowledge of the law regarding complementary therapies. Your equine experience, no matter how small, is important to us, so please visit www.equinesurvey.co.uk. Once you have completed the questionnaire you can email results@equinesurvey.co.uk to request the results of the research, a link to which will be emailed to you when the project is completed. Thank you very much for reading my message and I look forward to receiving your answers very soon.

Many thanks,

Perrine Junalik.

Have completed but a bit too yes or no and no room for explanation. Example, I have had the vet out for a medical problem and then therapy undertaken either by them or a recommendation by the vet or through a recommendation.

Equally I have general maintenance and well being - massage/back check etc without first going to the vet.

Im the same as you I get the back man every six months and I have him massaged every month as he was so poor he had little muscle and I have him massaged to aid his development, not paying a vet to decide something is needed when I can decide that for myself, Im not a numpty. Get a bit fed up with vets who talk to us who work with and own horses as if we dont know a bloody thing about them.

Thank you very much to all of your posts. It was very kind of you to complete the survey. The survey is very restrictive, and I can understand that an explanation can help put the information into context, but the survey designer did want to focus on a very narrow range of data.

It's not a black and white issue though. My results will skew the survey as my partner is a qualified massage therapist and we both do reiki so we use massage and reiki a lot on our own horses without giving the vet a ring each time....(although the vet knows that we do it). There's no option on there for self treating, the options all assume that you're getting someone in.

And my vet is very laid back about these things anyway. Other vets may want a visit before they authorise a therapist visit but with our wonderful vet you just ring him up and say 'I'm thinking of getting X out, is that OK?' and he invariably says yes.
