I shout for Bud and he ignores me, or will occasionally put his head up, watch whilst munching, decide if there is a headcollar in the hand that means work so disappears up the top of the field.
If he sees the feed bucket you can hear the "MUMMMMY, Love you, be right there" as he charges down the field, eyes totally locked on.

Sam totally ignores me, I have to trudge all the way to go and get him unless he is cold and wet.

That's my girly's trick too! She doesn't make being caught difficult, just likes to maximise grass munching time and pretend she's not bothered about seeing me! It's much cooler to be aloof you see!
The only times she will ever wander over is when it's wet or I've been on holiday and she hasn't seen me in a while!
Either with a whistle from round the corner where I can see them but they can't see me or a shout of 'Oi, you lot! Tea time or bed time at the gate, then maddie looks thinks about it for a bit.................. and then halt to gallop
and stops right in front of you
, then sandy cames at a slow walk!
I Never go past the second gate to catch mine!!!! its great lol
Harry comes galloping up to me when i go out in the field- sniffs my hand, and if i dont have any food he turns round and gallops back off again
and when i call him into his stable for dinner at night he comes galloping in from the top field and doesnt stop. he gallops INTO his stable. greedy pig!
and i just call Tara by her name and she walks over. slowly. verrrrry slowly.
I shout her, she'll look up and continue to do she's doing, or completely ignore me, unless i rattle food in a bucket, then she'll wander over. If I don't bring a bucket, I follow her around the field for 5 minutes and then she'll let me catch her
Never in 7 years has mine made the first move to come to me! Oh she wickers (sp) and she doesnt take her eyes off me but she would NEVER come to me of her own accord! When YO is bringing hers in i have to hide because she'll follow hers if she doesnt see me but if she knows im there she'll wait until i come and get her!! Bloomin Welsh Mare!!
Am I the only one who horse shouts for me..........?
If it's raining, Ossie shouts until I fetch him in, and the other day he'd somehow twisted a back shoe in the field and couldn't put his foot down, so he roared at me until I came out to see what was wrong.
But if I call him in to work, I can't catch him, he only lets me near him at night when it's supper/bedtime.
The others have always been fine and come to call, but not him........guess it's no surprise as he's part warmblood!!
My mare is usually easy to catch, but now that she's out at stud I can't get near her unless I am carrying my bodyweight in carrots.
The first time I visited and (eventually) caught her to take her headcollar off, she was like 'oh, it's you, I didn't recognise you...' And she's normally so friendly...Big Fraud!
my 2 horses come walking over to me, they dont exell themselves!!!! the only time bear neighs is when he's cold and wet and wants feeding!! i play with m sec A, if i run around(yes im a child at heart!!) buddie will trot behind me, if i suddenly stop so will he!! its fun. bear just watches and thinks for god sake mother!!! and bertie the foal who doesn't live with mine yet neighs when he hears me, along with the other 2 foals and their mums and the stallion!!!! if i *trot* he goes galloping round bucking and rearing!!!! its fun to watch!!! i'll try and get pics of him doing it!!!
Merlin is called.... merlin may look up....merlin is called again.... merlin starts to walk up field...... mummys pleased..... merlin stops for a poo.... mummy doesnt mind.... merlin stops for a wee..... mummy gets a bit bored...... mummy keeps calling..... merlin says yes yes im coming..... mummy says hurry up..... merlin says I will come but it will be in the most meandering line possible, stopping on the way for countless mouthfuls of grass... just incase he wont be turned out again for a month.
In other words he wanders up as and when he feels like it, unless its raining and then he hides under the trees and says sod off, if you want me you can get wet and come and get me!!!
Mine used to be a sod to catch! I've had her for over three years now and I just call her name and she wanders over to the gate making low winnies
I must say this gives me a warm fuzzy feeling as she is on full livery and won't be caught for anyone else unless its meal time (something to think about for those who think full liveries don't have a bond with their horses)
Oh yes and the rest of the herd don't respond unless they especially want to come in and even then their efforts are half hearted because they know I'm just there for my girl
I have two opposites! My lovely 15yrs old welsh D comes trotting up (incase i may have food lol) my 2yrs old Welsh A does the same but in the oposite direction! He can be a devil to catch sometimes!

just change bracken for merlin!!!
if shouting her name doesnt get a response she usually gets a mouth full of swear words!!
i do start nicely with come on fattie its teatime then it will escalate into a few choice words especially if its freezing and shes toasty in her rug!!
she used to be ok at her old yard she used to come running to me when i turned up but she never had the space there that she has now!
Shout to him, wave bread or apple and he comes trotting over. Without bread and apple shout a lot - he looks up, spots absence of edible things and goes back to eating
