I currently feed my rotties a combination of Natures Menu and other raw items. Natures Menu is a mix of rice, veg & raw meat which is supposedly fully supplemented and they also get assorted raw goodies, fish and raw bones.

One of them has just come out of the vet having had 2 nails removed and the vet said to me - to quote - "his nails are in a really crap state". He suggested I look at a vitamin supplement, mainly vit B12, to help his nails but he said the rest of him is in excellent condition including his coat which is really soft & shiny.

Very recently my older boy went in for some dentistry and had a full health check and the vet told me he was in perfect condition.

I'm now concerned though that they aren't getting everything they need from their diet, and as I'm also getting a new pup in a few weeks I need to get this sorted.

In the past I've fed PetSpec Show Dog which is a vitamin supp but I was advised it wasn't necessary. Before raw I used to try & feed Hills biscuits but it was such a struggle getting them to eat that I'd have to add cheese, mashed potato, tuna etc and it was a constant battle.

Is it possible/advisable to feed a dry biscuit meal in the morning & a raw in the evening? I know due to digestion rates that they shouldn't be fed together but this would be 8 hours apart. Could it cause a further imbalance though?

My other thought is that the dog with bad nails has been rehomed & I know that for the 1st five years of his life he was only fed a handful of supermarket mixer biscuits a day. Surely though any vitamin deficiency there was would now be rectified by the last 2 years of a proper diet.
