This is probably a very long shot, but I was wondering if anyone would know of any Welsh D studs who would have been producing the traditional type D around 20 years ago...

I've looked at the very extensive list on the breed website, but there are a lot of websites to go through, so if anyone could give me a place to start I'd be grateful!

Been around a while, I watched their stallion win at our local county show earlier this year, it was the only one presented properly, no rushing about spinning in circles at the end of the rein, lovely to watch a traditional type shown correctly and rewarded by going champion.

Why do you ask? It might affect which ones I mention! It might be an idea to Google the winners of the Royal Welsh Show - all the big names will appear there - Ebbw, Nebo, Llanarth, Fronarth, Parc etc.

ETA - most of the top ones are named here. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/gallery/welsh-cob-champions-of-yesteryear-7474541

I have a loan horse who was sold to the livery yard I'm at by his owners many years ago. They had said that he was a D from good lines, but we don't know as he had no paperwork left with him. For my own amusement, I thought I'd try to see if I could identify where he may have come from, and learn a bit more about the different lines in the process, as I don't think he will be my only D... :)

As I said - it's bit of a long shot! :D

I had fantastic traditional Welsh Section D who was bread at the Gateway Stud which sadly no longer breeds them.
She had prior to me being gifted her belonged to a lady that had kept her at her stables behind her centrally located London house and she was totally bombproof, spookproof and safe to ride and handle in all situations. I still very much miss her.

Bay with 4 whites by any chance?!?

To be honest the list is so expansive that your only 90% guarantee is that your pony will have Mathrafal somewhere in there! And a Nebo pony!

Black, no white. Apart from distinguished age related white on his face now he's getting on a bit... :P

He'll definitely have some Nebo Black Magic in him, but then so will 95% of other Sec D's, especially darker colours!
I think you'll struggle to find where he came from but there's certainly plenty to learn about the lines.

Here's my old boy's pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/sheadon+ebony

A lot of the big names are in there somewhere. As a start I'd pick out the ones that appear a few times and google them. Llanarth Braint and Nebo Black Magic in particular were both very prolific stallions with hundreds of offspring.

Seiont stud North Wales. practically impossible unless you have a name all breeds will help but only if you have a year and dams name maybe!! Good luck anyway

About 20 years ago Cyttir Telynor was standing at Fronath Stud, Ebbw Victor was also very successful around then. Parc Welsh Flyer was at Parc stud, and Horeb Euros won the Royal Welsh in !993 and he was very popular. He did tend to throw the traditional type, four of our mares go back to him on their dams side. Other studs you might want to research are Geler, Cathedine, Ffoslas (although they have now dispersed). Hope this is of some use.
