Can anyone recommend a calmer for a spooky but not hot horse? Around this time each year my boy goes into spooky mode but this year its just ridiculous! He is literally looking for things to spook at and stressing himself out! He is spooking at anything and everything. He's definitely not a hot sort, more hard work - lovely combo of lazy but spooky! He does have mild shivers which although not an issue when ridden, its become more apparent in the field and when walking out the stable as he's stressing himself out which makes the shivers more obvious. (Spooking in the field too past few days cos its been really windy - but not long back out after being in the t/o pen last month as fields were too wet.)
Any recommendations gratefully received :)

I've just started my mare on a calmer for the same reason and I've gone with topspec, after taking lots of recommendations. She's been on it just over a week now and I think there's maybe a 10% improvement so far but it could be my imagination!!!!

From personal experience I would strongly recommend you talk to Equifeast. Their cool calm and collected range cover spooky horses. My cob is really laid back calm chap who used to have meltdowns over stupid stuff. Not anymore. I have had him on various versions tinkering with magnesium calcium balance and I am very impressed with the results. I always used to think that when people spoke about calmers they meant for tizzy always on the boil horses which mine isn't. Just very spooky at stuff.

Thanks Flibble. That is exactly Fabio - he's not hot but has always been spooky and not very brave! I usually ignore him as reacting just makes it worse but its so hard not to at the moment when he's quite frankly being such a t*t!
A lot of the write ups on the calmers seem to be for hot horses but I don't want to kill any energy he has but would be nice to not have him looking at every single thing on the floor, hedge etc when we're hacking! Failing that will just have to persevere til summer!

I've had the same problems wih my TB ex steeplechaser. He's had me on the floor three times, his spooks are so violent! I have switched his feed to Thunderbrook Equestrian Base Mix and Healthy Chaff, and also give Tranquil E calmer (at a slightly higher than recommended dose). The difference? I now have a safe, sane, workable, rideable horse who has energy daily for schooling and is a joy to be around. I am going to try him without the calmer soon, as I think the main difference is due to the change in feed. With the calmer alone, there wasn't such a great difference. I don't find him lacking in energy either on this combination. Just sensible.

I have the same problem, A spooky pony but not fizzy. I use naf magic and definitely feel it takes that nervous edge off him.
