Calmer for very anxious horse in the main ring at shows

I know this has been done to death, but...

My one showjumper is super talented...he jumps beautifully at home and in the warm up but then has a complete melt down in the main ring resulting in us having to go backwards into the arena, having poles like we are ten pin bowling, and his latest trick yesterday was napping.

He is on magnesium daily and wears a fenwick mask.

But has anyone used a calmer JUST FOR SHOWS successfully on a horse with similar issues?

I had similar with my horse.

The only thing that really worked was going to course hire at the show ground either the day before or a couple of days before. Could you try this? Is he better if he goes to a venue more than once?

Otherwise could try calming cookies or I see lots of people raving about those titanium masks.

He has been to this venue countless times, and the same with other venues. Also course hire. Ahhh, I should add that he wears a mask...

I’d also try the calming cookies. It might be psychological for the owner but I’ve known a few folks who seem to think it works (inc me).

I had one that did exactly this and we scoped him for ulcers. Shocking result and one year later after loads of veterinary inut he is scoping clear and he does not nap in the ring either. If you do go the supplement route do make sure that everything you feed is FEI legal - many are not and many people think the rules do not apply at their level. Believe me the rules apply to anyone competing at any affiliated level and the dope testers do visit low level shows - be warned.

Thank you for this. He does not have ulcers....he did at the beginning of this year but is all clear. Definately will make sure it's all legal!

science supplements prokalm is the only one ive felt made a noticeable difference as a one off, but having great results with coligone liquid and the bio fibre nuts on daily basis.
