Can anyone recommend a calmer? I was looking at the NAF Magic calmer and the Blue Chip Karma. Has anyone had any experience of these and are there any negative health effects for using calmers on a daily basis?
Many thanks in advance

I did not find the magnesium calmers had any effect. The Valerian based ones do but they are banned from competition. The best legal calmer I have found is oxyshot, it just about takes the edge off.

I have used Magic - It worked for a while but one day I thought to myself.... she is still fizzy why am I spending x amount of money and took her off it... and she is exactly the same off it as she was when using it.

I have been recommended horse first relax-me but cant get her to eat it.

I have just started her on Feedmark Steady-up as friends have had a good result so fingers crossed!!

Get horse first relax me! It was reccommended to me by a few people & made a massive difference to my horse, made him a lot less spooky. The ibky

*the only reason I stopped using it was because it was very expensive and lasted hardly anytime at all. I've used numerous others, plain old magnesium, herbal calm from natural horse supplies... Top spec calmer actually made my horse even more spooky! X

I used Feemark's Steady Up for years with my previous horse as he was...errr...a challenge! The one time he hadn't had it, I came off him spectacularly-and I didn't find out he hadn't had it til afterwards (mix up with feeds at the yard).

I currently use EquiFeast's Sensible Essentials as I like their science better and i have a growing boy so calcium deficiency may well be an issue. I've only just started him on it though, so no idea whether it'll help with his field aggression issues!

Thanks for your replies. I've just seen a product called maxacalm by maxavita. Have you heard of that?

Have heard good things about ProKalm and Relax Me but haven't used them on our horse
we've use Oxyshot and SoKalm Plus and Equine Science Biscuits, hard to tell if they worked or not really, she was still varying degrees of stressed, but perhaps she would have been even worse without them!

A calmer that worked for my mare (Hermia) was molli chaff calmer Which I get from mole valley farmers (depends where your from to whether you can get it) but its £7.45 for a 15kg bag
