For my youngster!! He is fine but still spooky when out ( sees monsters in hedges etc) and as i am doing his first proper comp next month I thought it might be worth giving him a supplement for a few months but need to start now so its working in time.

Needs to be BE legal. he is very fizzy anyway which i dont mind but something to make him calmer /less spooky when out until he has a few miles on the clock!

All experiences and reccomendations please. I did use Magic on old horse which didnt do much but he was a headcase!

I have used tempralax too when he was first shod which had a good effect (not sure of BE legal though)

My TB exracer tried Magic too but didn't seem to have much of an effect. He's now on Dodson and Horrells Placid and I swear by it. Most people on my yard use it and all rate it. It's not too expensive either so won't break the bank and is a natural calmer

Does he have any other issues? Does he get tucked up and stressy? How does he travel etc? The type of reactions that he has can indicate what's making him spooky and that can help determine what type of product is best for him!

I had very good results with Equine America So Kalm... it has kept my hot WB mare in check over 7 months of bnox rest. She has just finished the last today, so hopefully now she can start her ridden work we can cope

Global Herbs TB calmer seems to be working (Nupafeed MAH, Hilton Herbs Temperamend, Equine America So Kalm, Oxyshot, Brewers Yeast - none of these worked, some made him worse). Trial and error for individual horses I'm afraid!

Ive used various different ones. The Global Herbs one made Gen very recalcitrant and not wanting to sparkle at all - but he also wasnt spooky.

Used Equine America powder for months and months and then took him off - no difference!

Oxyshot - quite good for the 'tense' days but not really able to cope with his 'OMG its a monster' or his 'throw his toys out of the pram' days.

Magic and Hilton herbs - didnt do a thing.

Used Equimins event paste the other week and for the first time ever got 71.3% in a BD Novice test so I am sticking with that one for a while.

Good luck - it is trial and error as what seems to work for one doesnt touch another.

Unfortunately, for BE you will not be allowed to use ANY herbal mixtures intended to act as a calmer.

Magnesium based calmers may be your best legal option.

Rate Magic, if they will eat it!! Use Nutriscience Anxicalm now, as just takes his anxious edge off him, he doesnt stress when out now

Global Herbs TB calmer is the only one that did anything for mine – beware that for the first couple of days he could become a bit worse but you have to stick to it for at least 2 months although I noticed a difference when I took him off for a week – he was back onto the loading rate the next week. He seems to love the taste of it as well – lots of the others had to be fed in such large amounts that his feed was too dry and powdery. For mine it just takes the edge off so instead of bolting when spooked he stops and thinks first. I didn’t need it until he had 6 months off work due to injury and went a bit native when being brought back into work (for the 3rd time). But now he has been in work again for almost 6 months I am toying with the idea of taking him off to see if there is any change.
Like anything though – you need to check what feed you are feeding and whether it is appropriate for work and weight – it is possible to have high energy lower starch diets which might help with the spookiness.

Hiya, I have just bought some Equine America Magnitude from Hailsham Feeds, it lasts for 6 months and is only £14.99!! It has worked on Axey a treat, I'm sure he was better after only being on it for 2 days lol!
