I have got my first miniature show on Sunday. I have taken Inky to local shows but have never done a miniature class and to be honest i am pooing myself already

I think its the thought that i am going to make myself look a complete and utter a**e in front of everyone. Is it just me or do other people get REALLY nervous when it comes to shows. I wouldnt mind im not eventing or SJ etc, so am not doing anything dangerous ( except maybe practicing my skiing skills around the ring when he sets off!!! and yes miniatures can make you ski!!! ) so why do i feel like this!!!????
Does anyone recomend a good supplement to help my nerves or any advice on how to calm myself down????

you can try resuce remedy or 'Kalms' both are really good - 'kalms' got me through 16 mile ride past pigs cows sheep and through 3 fords - so they must work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a bottle of rescue remedy and it says 3/4 drops on the tongue (human) but I just neck it out the bottle b4 xc! he he
Nerves show you care about what your doing so try and think of it that way- it helps me.

I fall apart in the showring - freeze on the back of my girl - and for some stupid reason I keep putting myself through it

To help me I had a session of TFT with Jo Cooper - cant explain what it is but it does help - hoping to have a follow up session just before the Royal.

I get really awful nerves sj - on the way there in the lorry it feels like I'm driving to the dentist or my own execution!!

I'd recommend rescue remedy - it makes me feel philosophical about my 'fate' rather than panicky, & after a few times of using it I can to 'expect' to feel normal rather than panicky & by the time Cat got ill, I was seeing a big improvement.

Also if you can't eat, try a supermarket's own (non fizzy!!!!) sports drink eg Tesco's has a cherry & an orange one. Then you won't get that faint feeling from not eating. BE WARNED!!! THey make me wee A LOT!!!

Focus on enjoying the moment in the ring, not on having to do well (I don't mean winning - I mean pony behaving perfectly, knowing all the rules, behaving differently from what you would usually do with your pony!). In other words reset your concious and unconsious objectives

Try to change your mindset - Rather than catastrophising about all the 'what if's', 'I'm not good enough', 'It's not going to go well' replace these thoughts with more realistic ones.

You need to pull yourself up as soon as you realise you are catastrophising/thinking negatively or it can snowball. Not easy I know, but it will help.

Try just to enjoy the experience and not blow it all out of proportion/give it too much weight. Focus on your horse and what is actually going on at that MOMENT.

Breathe deeply from the bottom/lower part of your lungs. If your muscles are tight and clenched make a point of relaxing them.

Anything like rescue remedy/Kalms can only help.

Have fun!!

(But I do understand, I struggle very much with the same sort of nerves)

Go to Holland and Barrett and buy some rescue remedy and some larch form the Bach flower remedies. The rescue remedy is for nerves and the larch is for confidence. Put 4 drops of the rescue remedy and two drops of the larch into a water bottle and take it all during the day. If you can, take the larch as a seperate remedy for a week before any event where your confidence isn'y what it should be. If you want anymore advice or you have any questions let me know. KJH
