Hi,
I wont go into too much of the detail but my horse has a current tendon injury. I have done box rest, then 3 months walking in hand, then 2 months walking ridden and now we are just into the introducing trotting stage. I say that but he has been trotting now for about 3 weeks at small amounts with no problems.
Throughout all of this he has been a jem, has not been sedated for anything and pretty much taken it all in his stride.
In 'normal' times he was 99.9 % excellent behaved with the ability to get quite exciteable just very occasionally and excellent in traffic etc.
He has now changed into a different horse. He spooks at everything and wants to go everywhere as fast as possible. When he spooks he lunges forward and then wants to canter on the spot, sometimes sideways (I guess you get the picture). This is so unlike my horse.
I thought about whether it was the injury but everything is very forward and he looks like hes enjoying it all (though I'm not!!). He is still regularly checked by the vet.
As he has also become a bit more sensitive to the touch I thought about calmers. I then put him on nupafeed to see if this would help. I fed the loading dose as directed and I think he may have been a bit better for the first two days (not much difference though). On day 3 he was his worst ever doing handstands in the school and then looking really pleased with himself. I contacted nupafeed who said he may have had too much and to cut it out for a few days and then feed a very small amount the next day which I have done.
I just wondered if anyone had any advice or similar experiences. I accept that it may just be high spirits but I got on this horse after 5 months of no work and hacked him out without any problem. I feel it would have showed up before now if it was just boredom etc.
Any thoughs greatly appreciated.
Thank you
