Can anyone recommend an effective calmer for a highly strung four year old tried the naf magic syringe today before a dressage test had little effect . So many on the market any tried and tested please advise.

I have heard that there's one called 'relax me' by horse first (?) which is expensivebut good- i have never used it myself though.

A lady recently suggested Nupafeed Calmer. She said a lot of show ponies are on it - its very good. Thinking of trying it. It is magnesium based.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

You would think differently mimi if you had a horse that reared when anxious she is schooled but need to help her relax when faced with new situations and not go up in the air.

Relax me is meant to be excellent. We've also had success with the Blue Chip Karma, and the Nutriscience Anxicalm. My first port of call though would be the Relax me calmer

Another thumbs up for Nupafeed. Apparently it's what they give to racers. Our boy (out of work since March and hence really needing to "express himself") is so much more chilled since he's been on it. NAF Magic didn't touch him (made him madder).

Equine America So Kalm is supposed to be very good, everyone i know whov used the syringes have loved them. Does it not depend on the horse think it is very much trial and error!

Horses always have a reason for their behaviour / reactions. At 4 years old, yours is still very much a baby. If you are having this much trouble with her and can rule out pain / hormones, then my suggestion would be veg out time and a restart. It sounds as though you might be asking for too much, too soon and calmers will not solve any issues this may cause.

I tried the NAF Magic supplement, but didn't find it had much effect. Global herbs Supercalm however is fantastic stuff and I'd highly recommend it. They also make a Supercalm Plus for highly strung horses and an instant calmer for before shows etc. Give it a go and you'll see ! X

Thanks for all your advise i have ordered some Relax Me and then in Dec she will be having time off as Winter progresses.
