Hi,

Does anyone use either PrimeVal stressless or NAF Temperalax at all - do they work?

My horse gets really stressed out travelling and going to shows so was thinking of getting a calmer to help him relax, i just don't want him to be dopey.

Any suggestions???

I suppose its just trial and error really?? What works for one might not work for another.

We are off to a show on Sunday and i just want something that will calm and relax him so that he concentrates on the job.

My friend used to use temperalax on her horse and it did a great job, unfortunately her horse was a little sleepy from the effects and was kicked out of it's class as they thought it had been sedated!!

I use Horse First 'Relax Me' on my big boy and it is great.

They do work to certain extent and help take the edge off on some horses, but if there adrenalin is on an all time high, sometimes it wont make a blind bit of difference. The only thing that I've found that clearly works for travelling purposes is sedelin but obviously you cant use that if gong to a competition.

Magic made no difference to two horses on our yard, but that could be just them, where as Oxyshot did work on a highly strung TB at a competition.

Guess its suck it and see.

Hi fisher1
My mare is highly strung and a natural worrier - shes had 8 days in up until the start of this week due to the bad weather and has been on 2 camomile tea bags (the contents of!) per day and has been totally chilled out.
I have used Magic before but it made her quite dopey.
Worth a shot and not expensive!

The only one that I know of that actually works is Science Supplements ProKalm. It is not magnesium based and has had a lot so success. If you go to their website here and look at the testamonial page, you'll get lots of information about it. It's not cheap though, but it does work within an hour or so.

Wow.... thanks for all your advice guys!

I am going to get my self off to a feed merchants later on today and see what they have in stock - and hopefully it will work on Sunday!!

Its our first 'proper' show so want him to concentrate on what he is doing as the last few little shows we have been to he has been a nightmare and it is hard owrk when you are on your own.

I started my horse on Global Herbs supercalm a few days ago and am going to ride her today for the first time since, so it is good to hear people recommending it.

Hi Guys....

thought i would give you an update; i used 'Magic' paste in the end and at first i thought it didn't work but it seemed to kick in, in the afternoon, which was great - we went to our first proper show and Volly jumped a dream (shame we had one down) i couldn't have asked for more.

:-)
