Just reading the naff calmer thread and it got me thinking... Which is the best one off calmer for a show... I'm thinking these syringe ones...

So many of them have magnesium but aren't they only effective if your horse is deficient in mag in the first place? So if your horse isn't deficient in magnesium, isn't it just a whole waste of money?!

I want something that will take the edge off Ben at his first practice show...

What are the reccomendations?

I have tried several over the years for my ex-racer and think it is trial and error as horses are such indiviuals. I find the only one that works for mine is Equine America So Kalm syringe. You get three doses in each syringe so don't give much each time which is easier too.

Tempralax was useful for our horse at the very big shows. He had Top Spec on a daily basis and that the lid on him at normal county shows and Tempralax at the next level up.

I can personally vouch for it's calming effect......standing on tiptoes to administer the syringe to my 17.2h hunter, who was somewhat excited and wondering why he was in a car park next to the M42 instead of a grassy lorry park in a field.

I stuffed it in the corner of his mouth, I was standing directly under his head. very little of the liquid (it is just a clear liquid like water) went down his throat, most of it went down mine. Note to self, shut gob when standing beneath the horse !!

Luckily we had a second dose on the truck and 2 of us got it in the right place. The horse went beautifully, cool calm and collected. I was away with the fairies, slumped in my seat and slept very well that night.
