I have an ex racehorse with a tendon injury. He has had 3 months box rest and is now turned out. He was really quiet for the first few days but I think that now he has decided he's quite missing his stable and wants to come back in! Any time I bring a horse in/out of the field he starts charging about and I'm worried he may do some damage to his leg again before long.

Is there anything I can use, i.e. valerian or something, that is stronger than a normal "calmer" as it doesn't have to be legal to use in competitions, just simply to give him a bit every day to relax him a little? Has anyone had any experience of using valierian?

ACP???
Have you spoken with your vet? They maybe able to suggest someting or perscribe some acp for you

Acp tabs you can put in their feed and thats what is in sedalin.
My girl was on it for 6 months after her high suspensory. "Normal" calmers didnt touch her.
Good luck!

I used the sedalin after my mare returned to field after few months box rest. I know something in feed is easier but sedalin is really easy to apply. I agree with Dianchi - it was the only think that was quick acting enough to work in the circumstances.

My horse doesn't like change and was finding it very hard to cope when I turned her out. I tried the Global herbs calmer and it worked a treat (after a couple of days) and they also do an extra strong one for immediate effect. It's worth a try.
