My sisters horse henry every winter gets very on his toes and quite spooky. We are considering trying a claming supplement I just wanted to know your thoughts on them and do they work. Which are best?

It would be great to find one that works he is a very talented horse, with great scope, but his bad behavior ruins this

Magnesium calmers are very good IF your horse is spooky/excitable due to a magnesium deficiency. It is odd that it is only in the winter is he fed more in the winter or perhaps clipped and therefore cold? If neither og these try equine america's so kalm powder, it is expensive but very good.

I'd second the magnesium deficiancy, this would cause year round problems.

Is he stabled more? Have you tried changing his diet? rugging him more?

Tried Magic on my horse and tbh it didn't make a great deal of difference. I think it's just a case of trial and error which can work out expensive and take ages but one make doesn't suit all horses

My wbxtb is very excitable , and i've put him on the equine american so kalm plus- it seems to be calming him a bit- he hasn't been on it long though- so we shall see! i was told it was the best of the bunch.

Was on Magic - good to start with then after a couple of months didn't seem to make any difference. On Nupafeed one now with excellent results and you can syringe it when you want an extra boost. Helpline very informative. Again agree its prob case of trial and error!

Found Magic very good, just took the anxiety off him, but may not be so good for truly "hyper" ponies. Friend worked in a tac shop and said they got nothing but good reports though. Have also found the Global herbs calmer to be very effective.

I agree that Magic, or any magnesium based product is good, IF it is a magnesium deficiency you are addressing. For horses which are not deficient it will make no difference and you will have to experiment with alternatives. Supplementing vitamin B can also be helpful in these cases.

try equimins serenity..we put my three year old on a course of it when he was traveling for the first time and moving house (at the same time) and he was so cool calm and collected about it it amazed us all! He's normally a bit sharp but we noticed a big difference

I have tried NAF on my nag and it didnt work. I then went to get some more feed and a Global Herbs sale rep was there.

So I told her my nags problem and she explianed that fine built horses cannot tolerate Magnesium so they make something called "throughbred" which is a calmer without the mag.

I have since bought some (anything is worth a go). will let you all know if it helps. Failing that i need some more suggestions.

My friend said the only one she has ever used is from Australia but it costs £90 a tub!!!!!!!!!
