I need a good calmer, more of one that i can just give to my mare just before i need it and not one that i have to build up for weeks. I was going to use the oxyshot one but i have heard it's no good. I know someone on here will know of some good ones i can try. Sorry in advance if this has already been done but i need one for this weekend.

I've never really looked into this Oxyshot stuff before, but can I just say that the "study" on their website (the ONE they actually have a link to: http://www.animalife.co.uk/images/sydney_uni_arterial_blood_oxygen_study.pdf ) is the most hilarious thing I have ever seen!!
I would personally try something that actually has a proper scientific basis if I were you...

I swear by Nupafeed, if you look on there web site it tells you all about it then give them a ring, if you ring early tomorrow they might be able to get it posted out to arrive with you by friday. I use it to take edge of my dartie who is a little excited at shows it take the edge off without ruining performance. good luck

I tried the Nupafeed and it was an expensive waste of money. I have heard very good reports about Oxyshot from showing people who have used it. Equine America SoKalm is very good.

Ditto....used it on my TB mare when she had lost the plot, had a good effect!

Blue Chip Karma - you can either feed all the time or just when you need it. I feed a low dose all the time, but used to just use it for 3 days before comps. Horse is not at all spooky/silly, but this stops him arguing and makes him focus on me during flatwork. The reason I started using it all the time is because it just makes him so much less argumentative without dulling him at all.

I think it's well worth a try. Certainly got to be a better bet than oxyshot!

George and I are going to a show on Sat, our first since the bucking off incident, I am going to try the equine america so kalm just to give me piece of mind - not sure whether to give it to George or take it myself mind you!

Going to try oxyshot on mine for the first time this afternoon, I'll let you know but I'm not holding out hope after all the bad reviews I've heard!

I did buy some oxyshot and used it last Sunday for a dressage comp, she was good in the warm up arena but as soon as i went into the test arena she tried to canter up the centre line at the beginning of the test and was still tense, so i don't think it worked (well not on my mare).

I tried some Oxyshot the other week, and I have to agree with Silmarrillion about the information on their website, I'm tempted to email someone at "Sydney Uni" and ask if they have the full research paper, or if they know that they are being held up and being made to look daft in this way...?

Had no effect on my girl.

I've had no joy with "immediate" calmers. Equine America So Kalm led to me being bucked off and ending up in A&E! Oxyshot didn't seem any different at all. Nupafeed MAH made him tense and aggressive.

The only instant thing that makes any difference with my chap (and then it's subtle) is Bach's rescue remedy.

Long-term use TB Calmer seems to be working (global herbs). Just takes the edge off which is normally enough

Very much trial and error - good luck with your search!
