I have started my mare on TopSpec Calmer because I have been told that it will take the edge off her without removing her sparkle

She is quite anxious about things going on outside of the arena therefore loses concentration in what she is doing in a big way...

Has anyone else tried the TopSpec and if so what did you think of it?

Does anyone have other suggestions??? I cannot use anything with a high magnesium content as it makes her shake and hyperactive

I have same problem with new mare who is very anxious.Bearing in mind she has only been with us 4 weeks shes settled really well. Two weeks after having her home I put her on glocal herbs tb calmer there is no magnesium in this product ,she is working really well on it.She is also on global herbs vits as she cant eat anything that heats her up , I wanted her to have balanced vits etc and this is supposed to work well with the calmer as they are all natural products.
The first time I took her out she was foaming with anxiety and sweat was dripping off her even her eye lids were foaming, as I had bought her for my daughter I was a bit worried wether I had bought the right horse .2 days of the calmer and she only sweats a little shes walking out great on the roads and canters on the stubble without going ott.
I hadnt tried top spec although I feed it to my tb I use the balancer and like their products.
The gh calmer for tbs has worked for us.It was recommended by other users on this site.

The reason I tried the TopSpec first is because I have her on the Balancer and joint supplement (which is excellent... I am so impressed after 6 years on Cortaflex for my other mare)... but the Global Herbs one sound a good option if it does not have any magnesium in it. She is just not magnesium deficient, which is why she seems to have this strange reaction when a loading amount is added

I use the Topspec calmer on my mare, I tried several other and nothing worked so tried this as liek you i was using the balancer to and have been impressed with the results and the calmer hasnt failed me. My mare is now able to hack out without killing me and school sensibly.

I was told to be careful of magnesium as well.It can also affect their motions she was very loose when we first had her every time she had the calmer her belly used to growl and her poohs were runny. Her stomach is fine on gh calmer and she is finally adding a few pounds and rounding up a little.
I really rate top spec so you could give it a bit longer and bear gh when in mind if its not what you want.
Both of mine are on different feeds you just have to find what works for each horse .Shes on conditioning flakes and hes on comp balancer.

The global herbs one is really good. I use the Supercalm one occasionally, and it is fab

The Nutriscience AnxiCalm Compete works really well too

The GH TB calmer does have a bit of magnesium in it - it magnetises on the spoon. It was developed for finer breeds and I feed it to my anglo.

If you definitely cant feed any magnesium at all, ring GH and I think that they will make the TB calmer without the magnesium. I used the supercalm first and it didnt do anything for my anglo so I rang them and they suggested the TB calmer but they did say if it didnt work they could increase the active ingredients for me. It doesnt cost any extra apparently.

RonaldoToo - I thought the GH TB calmer was working on Ronnie? Sorry to hear it hasnt.

yup, put Llewi on topspec calmer a few weeks ago - really rate it. did first shows since being on it at weekend and he won! bloody amazing. he was so much calmer. stopped rearing up when tied to trailer and totally chilled in the arena, but hasn't backed off my leg at all - still plenty enough energy to do what he needs to do. he's also on the balancer and the calmcondition cubes.

I was going to recommend the Nupafeed magnesium clamer but that isnt goint to help you!!!!! Sorry i am not of much use! How did you find out about the shaking? Very strange! A friend actually used the Nupafeed and found that it sent her boy a bit mad, she spoke to them and they said it happens very rarely, something to do with being short of a particuar vitamin or enzyme (cant remember now) in the liver which means they dont process it the same way. Anyway she took it off the loading dose and he went quiet again and then started going sharper agian - back toward how he was before he had it. They recomended she try just giving him just 20mls a day and as long as he doesnt get more than that he is a little angel - very strange but it works! He never went shakey though. If it helps i think that most calmers contain negligable amounts of magnesium, and in a form which they can't absorp very well anyway - they just put it in for the qudos and the advertising so you will probably be safe with most of them.
