I haven;t really ever tried any but just saw in another thread someone mentioned magnesium based calmers. Any recommendations?

Welsh cob is not very good to hack alone, is not perfect in company but I'm happy enough with his behaviour (bit spooky, nothing major)

However, I don't have anyone to hack out with regularly.

Last year got to the stage of hacking alone and even having a canter alone! However, I spent months and months more than a year in fact, building up to this - hacking the same few routes in company, walking in hand (good as gold) OH walking in front, behind, joining us on his bike etc etc (good with all this) then walking in hand and getting on and riding last bit home - you get the picture.

Then we moved! So, I need to start again but don;t have the company to help this time (not so often anyway) and also have become a bit nervous after a particularly scary incident!

So prepared to give calmers a go.

Naf Magic (i think its called) i used as a paste form (given like a wormer) was quite good - always took the edge of my horse when walking out whilst on box rest.

I think they do that as a supplement or liquid as well - if you need it for all the times you hack out then that would prob work out cheaper than using an paste form like I did (which was more ad hoc as it wasnt required every day).

Good luck - I know exactly how you feel - my boy was fab going out on his own where we used to be but we moved a year or so ago (and after a scary fall as well so my nerves were shot), he has completely lost confidence being on his own and when I have taken him out alone he constantly naps (which doesnt help my confidence in him!). But he is fab in company - nothing bothers him at all which is so frustrating!
