Ok just reading the other thread and wondered what calmers do actually work - I tried the Naf Magic but i dont think it really made a difference !!

Has anyone tried Nupafeed ?? or the bluechip Karma ??

I am using SoKalm at the moment and it has certainly helped Grace on box rest

I use Nupafeed very succesfully with my mare. Have used it for a couple of years although did take her off it for a few weeks a while back and her behavior worsened again so I know it is still working!

well im thinking of one for my mare actually but tried others and they havent even touched the sides !!

Equine America... You can add an extra scoop in their feeds on the day of a competition.

I feed Grace one scoop in her dinner every night and the morning we went to Halifax for her second SWT, I gave her a scoop in her breakfast.

You say you are looking for something for your mare. Could the problem be hormone related? If so I would try Regumate and see if that makes a differnec. Get a months supply and you will soon see.

really where from ?? x

I have tried (on my old mare):

Nupafeed - no discernable change.
Stroppy mare herbs - no discernable change
Naf Magic - no discernable change

See a pattern here?!

All of them I used alone without a feed change for at least 2 months. The only thing which improved her was to not rider her, so I retired her to a non-ridden home.

A friend used Karma on her mre and found it was excellent. Was the only one that worked for her. Magic worked well for my gelding's stress!

I must say Magic worked on my gelding to just not my mare x

friend of mie used nupafeed and found it much better than the NAF magic stuff.

Do you feed a mix or nuts to your horse? as i found swopping from a mix to nuts made a huge difference it is something to do with the starch content in mix that can effect some horses.

I feed lay off cubes as my base and give top spec feed balancer to keep condition i also find the top spec is more calming that blue chip or equilibra

I have recently put Jerry on Cool, Calm and Collected. Judging from his behaivour at the weekend it appears to be working! He is very chilled out at the moment, quite a different horse. (could be that he is finally exhausted though he is the same after a day off

)

Have you tried Hi Fi Lite/Original instead of Alpha A - sends OH's fizzy mare doolally.

We manage her on Coligone (seems to help seasonal problems as well as stressy colic) and Global Herbs Magcalm - NAF Magic and other calmers didn't touch her but he thinks the Magcalm is helping (been on it about 3-4 weeks now)

I tried NAF Magic and it worked almost immediately and continued to work for a tub and three quarters... then it stopped working.

The I tried Top Spec calmer which also worked fine. He's been off calmers for about 6 months now

would definately try the Nupa feed then as it has worked for a couple of friends of mine! I do know of a horse of a firends that cant have Alfa A as he goes bit round the bend but he is the only on i have come across

Good Luck

I am also a fan of Global Herbs, used the rig calm on my gelding and it was fantastic, got to the point where i wanted a bit more go so chatted to their vet and changed to the super calm. He is on half the recomended dose and it just takes away the temper tantrums, before a show i just up the dose for a few days.

Another fan of global herbs here.
Have been using the supercalm for a while now and it has transformed my mare!
She still has her spark but she is alot more trainable and even if she does have one of here moments (which are less and less frequent) i can still get some decent work out of her when before i could have ridden her for hours and she would never have settled!!
She is also less spooky and if she does have a spook, they are less extreme.
She was on a calmer for her hormones but i took her off it when i thought she had had her last season (was a nightmare in season). However she just came into season again and he behaviour didn't change at all.
I also have had good success with the So kalm paste before dressage!

Blue Chip Karma is amazing stuff. My very spooky fizzy arab has turned into a reasonably sensible, almost zero spooking arab. The difference, particularly in his spooking, is incredible.

I also feed him Bailey's Digest Plus Prebiotic (works on the same lines as feeding Brewer's Yeast). Calm nerves (Karma) and calm stomach (Digest Plus) makes one very calm horse.

I'm using Global Herbs Supercalm on Aleeta at the moment and I noticed a difference within 3 days. It has really chillded her out. Would highly recommend it.
