Hi, I'm kinda new on this site but just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of effective calmers....I've tried several before but none seem to have an effect, however my horse, who is a loon at the best of times, is getting ridiculous due to the time of year. He's a fit TB X, and is basically so full of it at the moment that he is almost impossible to ride!! Im used to coping with him as he has always been the same, but it would be nice to have my life made a little easier for the next few weeks.
Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks

I've recently started 2 of mine on Nupafeed (both for different reasons) and am very pleased (and amazed) at the results. It's not cheap, but it works, and you get specific advice on your individual horse when you ring up to order it.

On my boy I've tried Nupafeed and Brewers Yeast. Neither worked. Nupafeed sent him nutty, and it's possible the BY is doing that now too. Trial and error I'm afraid.

I've used nupa and a couple of others but the best one for me is oxyshot. I've only just started to use it, once at a show and once for a lesson. It takes the edge off my stroppy welsh cob but doesn't affect his performance and its totally legal. I'm amazed at how well he is doing on it he usually manages to even 'fight' off sedation!!

Trail and error sadly. I have been going through it for a year woth my Andalusian.

I was told though, that Magnesium based products can have theopposite affect on TBs and finer boned animals so if you are finding the mag based ones are sending him the other way, that may be why. I was suggested Global Herbs thoroughbred calmer.

Im now using Brewers Yeast and I "think" it is working! (fingers crossed)

The best I've found if Dodson and Horrell Placid. I also use a supplement callled Magnitude, comes in a small white tub and has a teeny weeny scoop. I also have a loopy ex recing TB and these 2 supplements have a made a difference. He's always gonna be a little excitable cos thats just his nature but he's a lot better than he used to be!!

Try super solvitax calming formula. I have used it on my TB with amazing results and have recommended it to many customers (I work in a feed merchants) and they keep coming back for more after having the same results as me. It is an oil and comes in a tin with a measuring dose lid. I give my boy the full dose once a day in his feed everyday, and he loves the taste too.

I've just been in my local tack shop and asked for the Blue Chip one, but the owner said they don't stock it, as they have 'found' a better one, Equine America, So Kalm. Only tried it once as my boy's a bit of a stress head travelling, so got the syringe paste one (£13 for 3 doses) and he was def a bit better with it. It's a magnesium based one (he's WBxTB). Who know's trial and (expensive) error I'm afraid!! The So kalm stuff also comes as a powder for daily feeding for general nuttiness!

Born2ride, Sorry to hijack the post but I am desperately trying to find something to take the edge off my anxious gelding he is 3/4 conne & 1/4 TB but behaves completely like a nervy tb plus a lot of stubborness. Having lost his pair bond, he gets vey panicky hacking out alone and anxious when he leaves the mare he is out with, I need to give him a little help whilst his confidence builds - are any of these recommendations suitable for this and his general bolshiness when fed up?????

I was thinking about this this morning, I have tried mine on Magic, AnxiKalm and So Clam by Global herbs. The most effective is So Calm, but you have to get the dosage right as it can knock them out!! My boy did the best dressage tests on Magic, but I gave it up as he doesnt need it at home, and you need to build it up. Have also known people have good results with the Blue Chip Karma on a TB mare

Thinking of trying oXyshot as is one of the few you can feed just on tyhe day, and my horse hates syringes with a passion!!
