Evening
Can anyone recommend a good calmer. I have heard Brewers Yeast is a good calmer or Magnesium Oxide from Natural Horse Company?

My horse is fence walking since loosing his last companion and he is getting new companion in a few weeks so just need to tide over his stress for a few weeks until we can get them going out together?

Vet today recommended Magnesium in his diet?!? Any ideas peeps??? x

Thanks Nigsha. Will try Mag Ox I think. I have googled them and so many people have different opinions on whether they work or not, left me confused.

The Mag Ox and Brewers Yeast are quite cheap compared to all the other equine calmers, thought I might give them a go first hee hee
any ideas or opinions appreciated x

I bought this

Magnesium Oxide (Mag Ox Heavy) 900g Laminitis Calmer from Natural Horse Supplies on Ebay

I bought it for our mare who was going to be in for 16 weeks box-rest due to a leg injury - I checked with the vet first and he said it would be a good idea.

IMHO it has worked very well and I am actually going to purchase another. Given that our mare is a 17 hh Dutch Warmblood it has lasted very well ( 13 weeks - I think we will run out on Tuesday) and at only £13.50 including postage a good deal. She has one blue 5ml scoop a day divided between two feeds.

Hope this helps

the mag is good for hooves too, I give both my boys it. I think it works where there is maybe insufficient in the forage. It causes loose droppings in overload but neither of mine have had a problem which makes me think they dont get enough without the supplement.

Thanks Clannard48 & nigsha

I have just purchased a 900g Mag Oxide off Natural Horseman thingy off ebay so hopefully I can get my big boy on it and will let you know how we get on!

Thanks again for your help guys
