I'm looking to put Ethel on a calmer as now she's gotten fitter, she's gotten sillier :P She starts off all stressy when ridden in the school and doesn't listen but once we've been round a few times and we've had a bit of a fight she starts behaving well. We hack pretty much everyday and she spooks at the things we pass everyday, again it's just when we get started and once we pass the first lot of scaries she's normally fine. I'm looking for a calmer just to take the edge off her a bit. I know she's not really bad but it's getting annoying having to try and avoid the rears of protest in the school when she's insisting on jig jogging and I want her to walk or stand. Also the having to sit tight for the first ten mins of a hack in case of leaping, spinning and big sideways jumps because the traffic cone we see everyday is scary, the drain we see everyday is scary and the yellow post things we see everyday are so scary we walk sideways snorting into one of the neighbours drive where three dogs are barking loudly at us but they're no bother
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated :)

I gave my horse Serenity when I first got her. She hasn't had any this year though. We tiptoe like a giraffe along the usual route & snort at the same hubcap on the fence when we pass ! I'm trying to work on building her confidence, but it's one step forward. . . .Some days she's fab !:D

Iv just put my resuce horse on equine answers calma who lives on his nerves and must say he been excellent on it so far [touch wood ]. He been on it about a month a can say i have notice he a lot quieter

I have tried quite a few different calmers, the best of which is Global Herbs Supercalm.
It seems to be a bit of a trial and error thing, what works for one horse may not work for another:(

Okay thanks. She is out 24/7 with no feed, gets a section of hay to munch on when she comes in for a groom and gets a handful of chaff if she has worked really hard as a reward about once a week so doesn't really count.

Best calmer i know of is just pure magnesium oxide.. magnesium is the base for most calmers they then just bulk it up with aload of other crap :)
