calmers

Global Herbs Supercalm, seems to work, or it could just be a coincidence that when we've run out, it's just one of those days when he decides to be an idiot. Not a miracle cure, but it does seem to help.

I have tried magnitude and so kalm and keep coming back to equine America so kalm takes the edge of a very stressy tb , expensive but works for me. Have tried blue chip karma , magic , , oxyshot , global herbs, basically you name it I've tried it . Unfortunately it's a case of trying them some work for some horses and not others . If they came in a syringe i tried that first as they are expensive . Wish you could buy a trial size

I use topspec calmer.
I started using it on my tb when I first got her as she became very stressful due to a stallion. Between that and moving yards she settled down fantastically.
When my New Forest came I wasn't going to put her on it but after a few weeks I decided to try her on it as it had worked so well on rounding out and calming down my TB.
I tried it and they are both now so settled.

I can't decide whether to wean them off it or keep them on as they're just so content I don't see the point in changing it.

I know a few people who keep their horses on it as it just makes them less on edge etc.

thank you, my mare is really forward going at the moment, and i'm taking her to our first showing show in 2 weeks, and as i'm nervous it would be nice not to have to worry about my mare.

Naf magic works wonders for my spooky, panicky mare. Takes off the edge, still has the occasional spook but no panic any more. Takes a couple of weeks for it to start working but after that great!

Have tried them all to little avail, a healthy dose of Valium may do the trick - actually my next step is a whole bottle of rescue remedy, if that doesn't work then I will give up!!!!

It's quite tricky when it comes to calmers as what works for one horse won't work for another - it's down to the individual and a bit of trial & error I'm afraid!
Magnesium based calmers (like NAF's magic for example) will only work if your horse is deficient in magnesium - I read somewhere that they only work in 20% of cases, but it's worth trying to see if it works - because it can really transform some horses.
I've personally had quite a bit of success with Topspec's Calmer, it really took the edge of my late gelding without making him a donkey and worked so well for him - does nothing for my mare. Heard good things about Nupafeed (think that's magnesium based?) and Oxyshot too. Dodson and Horrell's "Placid" herby mix used to send one of ours to sleep so that could be worth a try! Global Herbs are really good too, worked well for my last horse and they're so helpful over the phone if you're not sure what to try. Good luck!

I've tried just about every calmer going and found the only one that works (and it REALLY works) is Hilton Herbs - Calm and Collected (used to be called Temperamend). Only thing with it is it contains valerian which is a banned substance.

It's also pretty cheap :)
