Hi,

I am looking for some advice on calmers. I am looking for recommendations for calmer for my daughters pony. He isn't fizzy or anything like that.

I feel he may need some just to keep his attention a little more. He can be a little anxious about things.

Any tips welcomed.

Have you tried just plain Magnesium Oxide? It’s the base for a lot of calmers but on its own is a hell of a lot cheaper! Helps a lot with my boy. I get it from HorseHerbs

Yes. You can try magnesium. But if your struggling to keep his attention and he gets anxious about things, ground work is a far better option.

Hi,

Thanks for this. Ground work isn't his issue. I've been working with him on the ground for years. I got him as a yearling and he is now 6.

I've been using Nupafeed MAH for my anxious mare and I'm impressed with it. She has always had mag ox as part of her general supplement but this seems to have a far more profound effect. It's not cheap but it does last a long time.

There are so many out there, from herbal remedies, liquids because they are supposed to be absorbed better and powders. I am not entirely convinced they work, I have tried quite a few and have not seen a marked improvement from any of them.

Maybe try the Magic Calmer syringe. You could use the supplement as well for a short time til you feel he's a bit more happy I himself. The syringe just a wee booster before doing anything with him. I give it to my horse about an hour before he gets his feet done and it does seem to help.

Sometimes it can be a gut problem that causes this kind of upset and anxiety I would put him on a gut supplement or oily herbs, as in rosemary, thyme, oregano and I also add spearmint and my horses have been alot better since adding this to the diet.
