I've looked at the pics on Shoestring Eventing (brilliant resource if you don't already know about it!) but has anyone done it? It would be our first event of the year, is it a good introduction or is it (in relative terms!) not inviting for a first event?

It's beautifully built, very inviting, and up to height at all levels. It's pretty hilly, so the horse needs to be fit enough to cope, and the going can be hard at that time of year.

Obviously, being in Eventing Central Gloucestershire, it's very competitive!

I did an event there earlier this year, in my opinion it was a pretty under height 80 in comparison to somewhere like Offchurch or Moreton Morrell. And fairly straightforward, only question really being a step up 1 stride to a brush, everything else simple logs/walls/portables. Not particularly spooky either, again comparing to the likes of MM which is usually brightly dressed.

It's hilly, yes, however at 80 speed not especially hard to get the time.

I agree, I've judged there a couple of times and would say it's straightforward.
Time always seems to be wheeled very generously as well, my horse couldn't go slow enough to avoid naughty points and a friend who religiously is too slow came inside the time.

Thanks so much that is really useful! And thanks IHW as well - might have changed my mind and decided to go after all :)

No problem, I would recommend it as a first event - it was my first of 2017. :)
