Probably a post for Volatis. Does anyone have any info or opinions on Camaro? I know he is Trakehner approved and the sire of Chess M but not much else on him....just wondered if anyone could give me some more info on him and what type of mare's you think he may suit?

Yes he is Trakehner approved, one of only two coloured stallions (the other is Cointreau). He was a finalist at the Bundeschampionate as an eventer, and I know he went show jumping at one point with a fairly young female rider, but dont know if he is competing now.
He has a super temperament, and a very good round canter. Seen a few nice foals by him, including a super moving filly foal at last year's Elite auction. I would only breed him to a mare with a super fore leg as he is pretty upright in front.

His sire Le Duc competed to FEI level possibly even Grand Prix, and actually stood in the UK for one season. Very good dressage bloodlines. The damline has produced some good horses too. camaro is standing at Gellings again next season

Indian Boy and Grande Couleur are also approved Trakehner Pinto stallions. Grande Couleur did his stallion performance test in 2008 and is now also lifetime approved. Indian Boy is approved since long but I heard his fertility is bad now at his age.

Ooh - I like Contrieu! Although I do prefer Camaro's head. If only I was good at foreign languages as his breeders appear to have quite a few of that line, including full bro/sis to Camaro and offspring, as well as siblings of Contrieu...

Off to have a look at Grand Couleur and Indian Boy....

I heard Grande Couleur had been gelded after his licensing? He doesn't appear on the verband's stallion list, so I wonder why that would be if he is still entire
I had totally forgotten about Indian Boy, I just assumed he wasn't covering anymore but you right he is still listed by the verband. He is Grande Couleur's sire isn't he but thats the only offspring of his I think I have heard of.

Grande Couleur has not been gelded. He just got time to grow up and has done his stallion performance test this fall. So he was no longer active licensed but now is approved again. I spoke to his owner and he willl be available the coming season, just not sure if AI or only live cover. I told her about youtube and she may put up a video of him there.
The website is: http://www.floggensee.de/index.html

BTW you have a homozygous Pinto Trakehner son by Grande Couleur in UK.

Thanks Gwen. I wonder why I was told he was gelded (it was right after his licensing too). Be nice to have another option to Camaro, especially a more dressage orientated one

I cant see anything about Grande Couleur on the Floggensee site yet, but they are an EU station so if he is standing there next season maybe they will ofer shipped semen to the UK. Hopefully he will be at the Trakehner stallion show in February so we can see him under saddle.

I would agree 100% with what Volatis said re his movement. I made the mistake of watching a video of him after watching trak dressage stallions so was pretty unimpressed by him - which to be honest isn't really fair on him. As an eventing sire he has lots of great attributes - particularly since he is a trak! It really depends on the mare you have and what you plan to use the foal for. If its for dressage, then I think there are better (non trak) options that may give you colour - unless your mare is a very good mover and you are confident she will pass this on. As an eventing sire I do think he has a lot to offer though

If you are not interested in colour then there are probably better options for dressage and jumping, though so much depends on the mare - he may be an ideal match for your mare and what you want even if he was bay!

That sounds interesting! Who is he and who is he graded with?

The colt is from the first season of Grande Couleur when he was allowed to breed. He is a yearling now, will be two in 2009. Is black and white but has also the grey gene. He is homozygous for black, agouti and tobiano. I have a lovely picture of him, just do not know how to post it here. But you can contact his owner: LYNP372@aol.com

Thankfully Chess has not the short front movement of his dad. He can move elastic and with reach. Being the half brother to Sempatico it seems he got some from the dam fortunately and maybe a bit Le Duc who was an amazing stallion who died much too young. Although on his stallion testing they all said what an amazing jumper he is, his scores for the dressage part were better.

There is just a little "eye cheating problem" that Chess has: he has much higher white in his hind legs and not too high on his two front legs and when he moves you sometimes think his front legs are shorter than they should be in view to his hind legs, but it is only a cheat to the eye.

Thanks for the info flying colours

If he has rhe grey gene and is homozygous for black, agouti and tobiano, does tht mean his foals will be born say black and white, but may grey out? Sorry if thats a numpty question

Yes Hollycat correct, you would f.e. get a black and white but it may grey out.

@ MarkvanNunen:
there is the first part of videos from his stallion testing on youtube

Chess has great work ethic, is easy to ride and to handle and he is always lose and elastic under saddle as you can clearly see from this video and his tail carriage.
