Just thought I'd share this as very worrying. Info taken from Doglost Cambridgeshire and is also on Cambridgeshire Constabs FB page.

DOG owners are being urged to be vigilant after thieves tried to take pets in three separate incidents in Peterborough.
In the latest incident, an offender tried to grab a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in South Street, Stanground, at 11.20am today (Friday). The dog bit the offender who then ran off. He is described as white, slim, in his 30s and was wearing a black woollen hat.

Offenders had tried to steal another Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the Somerville area of Werrington in the early hours of this morning. The dog managed to run off and was later found nearby.

The incidents follow another attempted theft in Welland Close, Dogsthorpe, at about 9.30pm on Monday (September 3) where offenders attacked a man and tried to steal the Old English Sheepdog he had been walking.

Police are keeping an open mind as to whether the incidents are connected.

Detective Constable Kevin Poole, investigating, said: "I would urge dog owners to be vigilant and avoid walking their dog in isolated areas, especially if they have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier-type dog.

"Investigations are underway to determine who is targeting these dogs and I would urge people to report any suspicious activity. "Anyone with any information should call police."

Anyone with any information should call DC Poole on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
