Camera for inside Horse Box?

Hello,

I have a few longer journeys planned with my lad and would like to keep an eye on him inside the box while travelling. Does anyone know of a cheap alternative to the expensive horsebox cams? I saw someone recommended reversing cameras but anyone have one they particularly liked? TIA!

We had a ' Backview ' reversing camera inside our wagon , black and white picture , very basic , easy enough to wire in and did the job brilliantly , although you do see the horses the opposite way round ( mirror view ) .
For a quick and easy wireless option , my friend has fitted a phone cradle in her trailer and uses a spare mobile phone when travelling to send video to her own phone .

Not the cheapest option but I use a GoPro, streamed wirelessly to my phone. (Plugged into a USB battery pack for longer journeys).

The advantage is that I then also have a GoPro to use.

Not sure what type I have, a cheapo reversing camera off eBay, about £20, it's not posh but adequate for my needs., My OH wired it so it acts as a reversing camera for (ancient) 4x4 when not collected to trailer, but once the trailer electrics are plugged in it revert to trailer camera.

My recently acquired truck has an excellent camera in it, and it is very distracting until you get used to it. I've had it moved so it is the passenger able to see it more than myself. It would be very easy to make a mistake and not look where you are going.

Our monitor was on a fixing on the hump on the engine housing , so low down rather than on the dash , to avoid becoming a hazard in the case of an accident/collision if we were thrown forward , and angled away from the driver and towards the passenger .
It is very diverting to watch what your horses get up to when they think you're not watching considering that whenever you just stick your head around the door into the travelling area they are always stood like angels quietly eating their hay .

It's also instructive and sometimes diagnostic. Ludo had begun to be noisy travelling, which is often the first sign people report of hock problems. On his trip to hospital last week I watched him on the camera and the noise was caused by constantly picking up and putting down his left hind foot, and occasionally the right hind, not connected to any loss of balance.

After nerve blocks the diagnosis was bilaterally lame, much worse in the left hind foot than the right hind foot.

I am going to use a short journey to check the progress of his rehab, and probably time getting back on him by when he travels better.

I have a cheap generic reversing camera installed by my OH in my box. It’s great for peace of mind, especially when mine was a poor traveller, just knowing he was stood upright was great peace of mind

I have a Uzone magnetic wireless camera, so I can remove it from the box when it's not in use. It also doubles as a reversing camera by sticking it on the back of the car, but I don't really use it for that. If I'm doing a longer journey I use a battery pack - I think it's around 90 minutes battery life without backup. It's very simple to use and gives a clear picture.
