Does anyone have one permanently? We have CCTV on our yard and YO kindly allowed a camera to be put in my stable so I can monitor my lad whilst on box rest (mainly to make sure he isn't going to cause himself any other issues!) I am absolutely fascinated by his routine, I just assumed he would stand at the haynet and eat all night until it was gone and then sleep like his neighbours but he doesn't, he will munch for a bit and then go off and have a snooze, then more munching and more snoozing and then occasionally he has a lie down for a bit and then a roll. I'm not sure if this is his normal routine or just because he is on box rest so I am going to see if I can just keep them in for one more week after he goes out just to see!

I think it's useful to know because I am just starting him back on his ulcer treatment and as I am only giving half because the ruddy stuff is so expensive, vet recommended first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for maximum effect however when I woke up at 5, I checked the cameras and he was munching away at quite a bit that he had left, checked again before I left the house at 6:15 and sure enough, still munching so it would have been pointless me giving him the medicine!

No real point to this post, just wondered if anyone else has used them and found their horse has a funny routine.

I would LOVE this!!! Does anyone recommend a camera that doesn't require WiFi? (is that even possible?!)

Its stupidly addictive compulsory viewing! Each horse has their own wee routine. Some eat more than others, some sleep more than others.

I watched it on and off all day today! I wanted it to have a mic on it so I could shout at him when he started digging up the bed when his pals went out!

I am sure I have seen people asking before! Ours are connected to the wifi in the house on the yard so I can't help but I am sure there are some out there, I am almost tempted to get one for when I have to get rid of the proper camera!

In theory I would love this, in practice it would not be good. My 4 are kept at home. They are the last thing I check at night and the first thing (after switching the kettle on) I check in the morning. Unless I am on colic watch or similar when it would be lovely, this would seriously hamper the hours of sleep I actually manage to get! Every time I stirred during the night I would be tempted to check them. Understand it in your situation OP, but I'm not sure it would be good for me. :D

I put some in when my mare was in foal. It’s connected by a wire into my broadband. Then it connects to my phone. You can connect it by wire to a tv . Try maplins they where very helpful.

It was a godsend ! Watched her for weeks and noticed that she was always uncomfortable at 9pm. She stop eating lie down , walk around etc etc . She did this for a few weeks. She did the same when she gave birth, got to see everything. Well worth it and yes very addictive!

This wouldn't be good for me either, I wouldn't get any sleep. I can see one of mine in her stable from my bedroom window, which is distracting enough, I'm always gazing out of the window at her which drives my OH mad. Sometimes I wake him up to tell him what she's doing lol. If I had a camera in the other stable so that I could watch my other horse, I would never get any sleep and I would definitely end up on my own.

I have just purchased one of these as i dont have Wifi to conenct to.
i use a 32 gb memory card and it takes a photo every 30 seconds. you can set it to video but it only last 2 hours (mainly becuase of the memory card.

Its not perfect but it gives a good idea of what they do and how long for.

Has night vision too so no need to leave lights on, will cost a fortune in batterys so rechargeable once are a must

I've just got a standalone camera from a company called Reolink - it has a rechargable battery and takes a 64Gb card and if required can be connected to over wifi. The one I got can have the battery recharged by solar power so I won't have to keep getting up a ladder and recharging it!

Yes all three of my horses has cameras permanently on and recording, it is more interesting than most of the tv and you don't see repeats night after night. :D
