i am interested in taking pics of horses and my camera doesnt have a good enough shutterspeed to capture the action, i am really looking for something that isnt too expensive but does take some really good pics :D
please also feel free to give some recomendations as i have no clue what are good at the moment :)

It depends on your budget but I have just got a Canon EOS 350D which has a 1/4000 shutter speed. You can always pick them up on ebay for around 200. Which ever camera you go for you will need a digital SLR one in order to get action photos.

I've just got a DSLR off gumtree - definitely recommend it! I got my sony a350 for just over half the original price with extras and as new condition! and could pick it up as you can search within your area :-)

I have a feeling that you dont mean shutter speed but are talking about the shutter lag that compacts have.

For equine stuff you will need a minimum shutter speed of 1/500th of a second for best results and any DSLR will do this. You will also find no problems with shutter lag with a DSLR so have a look on ebay for a second hand one

Happy hunting, be warned, its addictive

I swear by my Kodak EasyShare Z7590, it's never failed me. We bought it new in 2005 so must be quite cheap by now. It is not quite a digital SLR but very close, i used to use a film slr and it has very much the same feel. it's really compact though, but much more satisying to use than a little digital.

apparently the click->capture is 0.2 seconds but you can speed this up by half-depressing the button and focusing first, then you just click and your shutter speed is auto: 1/8–1/1700 sec.; manual: 16–1/1000 sec.
it's also got a variety of best-pic things so you can take 5 and choose etc.

i think it's the right combo of easy-to-use and advanced features and works great for an amateur enthusiast like me :)
